How does this instance feel about this growing pact against federating with Meta? (fedipact.online)

Meta/Instagram launched a new product called Threads today (working title project92). It adds a new interface for creating text posts and replying to them, using your Instagram account. Of note, Meta has stated that Threads plans to support ActivityPub in the future, and allow federation with ActivityPub services. If you...

eigenspace,

I don’t have any firm opinions yet. I definitely feel the knee-jerk temptation to not federate with them, but on the other hand I guess federated Facebook products is pretty much what I want from them.

I don’t care about Threads very much (at least yet), but I know a lot of people where my only way to get in contact with them is Facebook Messenger. So if I could contact them without needing to have a facebook account myself, I’d be quite happy.

Where have you been camping so far this summer?

I camp in a travel trailer, and have done 2 road trips so far with the hubby. First trip was Savannah>St. Augustine>Charleston. We were short on choice in Savannah and stuck with a KOA sandwiched between Hwy 17 and 95. It... was a safe place to park and the showers were decent, I'll give it that. The campground in St Augustine...

eigenspace,

I haven't done as much camping yet this year as I'd have liked, but I did an amazing camping trip in Banff where we managed to snag a spot in Two-Jack Lakeside, a gorgeous little campground right in the forest on the side of a beautiful and calm lake.

At the time, all of Alberta other than Banff was blanketed in smoke and under a fireban, but Banff was exempt from the fireban so we even got to have campfires and such which was really nice.

eigenspace,

While I agree there's a huge amount to do, I think it's wise to just find places where plastic use is superflous and visible, and target those first. Now that plastic shopping bags are being eliminated, the next step is to start attacking packaging.

This is a bigger and harder task, but we've learned some lessons and developed some good products in the process of replacing plastic bags, so hopefully we're more prepared than we were before.

eigenspace,

In Canada we've removed them and I'm just left wondering why we have 5 and 10 cent pieces now. They're also absolutely useless.
