elephantintheroom,

Meh… just another reason added to a looong list about why I never looked back after switching to Linux, back when Vista was introduced.

elephantintheroom,

Would’ve done so earlier, but didn’t see it before.

Also: What are the downvotes about?

elephantintheroom, (edited )

Pretty sure it’s possible or there are other options. But you’d probably have to invest a lot of work and time to make it work.

For most people it isn’t worth the effort, which I understand.

elephantintheroom,

I think it’ll take some time until these apps become that andvanced. Most lemmy apps are in a pretty early stage of developement and still highly WIP.

Some third party reddit apps seem to be planning on moving to lemmy, so maybe we’ll see something better coming around the corner in the near future.

elephantintheroom, (edited )

Yeah, devs like these have the perfect kind of experience considering UI/UX developement to get this done well.

elephantintheroom, (edited )

Seems to be a server-sided error. Maybe it’s because hexbear is running an older lemmy version on their server?

I hope an admin can tell us more.

elephantintheroom,

Are you using a browser, an app and which one?

I had the same issue before, but it woked after they updated the server. No idea as to why, though.

elephantintheroom,

Okay, maybe try a chromium based browser (like brave, vivaldi or chrome). If that still doesn’t work, you might want to post something on the support community or use the search function to find a fix or something.

Hopefully, you’ll get faster/better answers there.

elephantintheroom,

You’re welcome. Hope you’ll find a fix!

can vlemmy control what I can or cannot see?

I’m new to fediverse and lemmy stuff and when I made my account, I didn’t know this but I saw a yt video today which showed that the instance I’ve registered with, can block another instance and I cannot interact with that instance as well. Is that true? That seems like more control over what I see than reddit itself. I...

elephantintheroom,

Yes, it’s called defederation.

But VLemmy hasn’t blocked any other instance, to my knowledge. Seems like they want to let us users decide what we block.

elephantintheroom, (edited )

Me too. I check (ir-)regularly if any instances got defederated.

But I think even if it happens, they would inform us. Communication from the admins regarding changes seems very good.

EDIT: You can check it for yourself over here. It doesn’t show exactly which instances are blocked, but it helps.

EDIT 2: Better check VLemmy’s instance page directly. Blocked instances should be listed in there, if there will be any. Last link led to outdated information.

elephantintheroom,

Thank you for enabling us to be here. Keep up the good work!

I’m quite curious as to how many will actually turn up here. I guess we’ll see.

elephantintheroom,

Funny. They can try. I’m not as dependant on their platform as they wish-think. I’ll find other ways or other platforms.

elephantintheroom,

To nowhere. It may take some time getting used to not watching my favorite content creators, but I think I’ll manage just fine. I’d rather not use youtube-ish sites at all instead of being forced to watch ads every few minutes.

Should the Fediverse welcome its new surveillance-capitalism overlords? Opinions differ! (privacy.thenexus.today)

I'm changing my stance on the whole Meta/project92 thing after reading this article. I think the entire* fediverse should block project92 by default. Later, some instances can re-evaluate whether to maintain those blocks, once we have a better idea of what the benefits and consequences of federating will be:...

elephantintheroom,

Good idea. Kind of like guerilla-marketing.

elephantintheroom,

Come on now...

I also strongly disagree with what this user says and I get your anger, but is it really necessary to be insulting? I feel like simply downvoting and otherwise ignoring it would be healthier for this community at large.

Let's not make this place like reddit or any bigger social network, please.

elephantintheroom,

It’s not “making fun of” when you call someone an “annoying cunt”.

I understand what you’re saying, though. Such views should have no place here.

But most of these people are just looking to argue and fight. Ignoring them would be for the best.

elephantintheroom,

True. Let them have the ashes of what will remain of this dumpster fire. Better than them coming here to turn it into the same toxic wastebin.

I hope the fediverse community will remain as nice and open-minded as it is now.

Jerboa appreciation

With a lot of talk around new apps in development & coming on stream, something I’ve been happy to see, & commented on, as choice is always a good thing… I thought I’d just voice my appreciation for the Jerboa team, love this App, such nice Ui & UX, I find it very easy to use, all the view options, post layouts, especially...

elephantintheroom, (edited )

Same here. We'll have to wait until our instances update their servers to v0.18.

All we can do right now is to use a browser, an older version or a different client.

elephantintheroom, (edited )

Yep, that's what I meant by "older version".

elephantintheroom, (edited )

Are there any plans yet to update the server to v0.18? Just wondering because I get an error when trying to log in with jerboa.

EDIT: It’s done.
