Hit up some more google and turns out i was overthinking the pcie adaption process; it turns out there is just an adapter that goes directly from m.2 a+e key to pcie 1x (and a free usb port too) which is basically exactly what i need, sick thisll help for the opnsense box

the original usb 3.0 from 2008 is still rated for 5 gbit/s, so even if this computer isnt 3.1 (which is 10gibt, but the sticker says 3.0) it should be plenty for gigabit ethernet
