Had some custom temporary tattoos made to hand out at . 😁

geekmomprojects,
@geekmomprojects@mastodon.social avatar

@madeindex it's a WS2812B (NeoPixel) addressable LED

geekmomprojects,
@geekmomprojects@mastodon.social avatar

@jeroen94704 something like that does exist, though not in a WS2812 shape: https://spritelights.com/

geekmomprojects,
@geekmomprojects@mastodon.social avatar

@ArchiteuthisFlux after working with the super tiny LEDs the 5050s feel huge, but the tattoo is 1.5" square, so it's just a bit larger than a 5050

geekmomprojects,
@geekmomprojects@mastodon.social avatar

@ArchiteuthisFlux I'll have to talk to @settinger about the appropriately sized corresponding battery implant

geekmomprojects,
@geekmomprojects@mastodon.social avatar

@ArchiteuthisFlux @settinger also, wouldn't they be WS2812-380380?

geekmomprojects,
@geekmomprojects@mastodon.social avatar

@ArchiteuthisFlux @settinger that, I'm afraid, is beyond my pay grade!

geekmomprojects,
@geekmomprojects@mastodon.social avatar

@ArchiteuthisFlux @settinger and, of course, the better response, which occurred to me far too late to be funny, would have been, "I'm afraid I don't know the standards because I don't have any."

geekmomprojects,
@geekmomprojects@mastodon.social avatar

@petrillic that's the goal!

Today I made pistachio butter, and now I understand why it is so expensive.

geekmomprojects,
@geekmomprojects@mastodon.social avatar

@ArchiteuthisFlux you never know what can be turned into butter until you try!

geekmomprojects,
@geekmomprojects@mastodon.social avatar

@RealGene aw damnit, didn't realize they supplied Trader Joe's

geekmomprojects,
@geekmomprojects@mastodon.social avatar

@RealGene actually it's less about the cost of the nuts than the amount of work involved to remove the skins from the nuts and the long time it takes to process them into a paste.

geekmomprojects,
@geekmomprojects@mastodon.social avatar

@RealGene I will keep that in mind if I ever decide to scale up my pistachio butter output by several orders of magnitude!

Having fun with the hat press. Just made this as a birthday gift for my husband, who has a gardening hobby/addiction.

Finally. Finally! A toilet light with star projector.

geekmomprojects,
@geekmomprojects@mastodon.social avatar

@todbot this may be one of the few exceptions to my "LEDs improve everything" rule.

I have been WAITING for Sander van de Bor of California STEAM to start selling his very cool LED wearables as necklaces and just got my hands on his new Amoracci pendant. A supercapacitor (not a battery) provides power so it can charge in about 10 minutes and run lots of different built in patterns for 15 hours straight. It is also quite lightweight and comfortable which is great considering how much I will be wearing it!!!

I love this image of my son photographing the Aurora Borealis from the airplane window as we fly home from Illinois. Ironically, I tried to see the Northern Lights in Iceland last year, spending two very cold nights in a freezing field without success. Plane viewing is definitely the way to go.

Woo hoo! My first feature (non project) article for @makemagazine about three amazing teachers who run maker spaces in their schools is in the latest issue of Make, and also live online now (no paywall):

Finally got around to using the hat press I bought on impulse several months ago. Can confirm that it was a good purchase.

My husband is growing cherry tomato plants and has numbered them to track the different breeds (image 1) I thought I'd give him a little help this morning (image 2)
