The cost to Wellington City Council for the strengthening and redevelopment of the Town Hall – one of the most complex construction projects in Aotearoa – is projected to increase by between $70 million and $147 million from its current completion cost of $182.4 million.
I’ve let nature reclaim mine - partly due to laziness, partly because of time constraints, but mostly because winter kills half of it every year and it’s an battle to repair it.
Now the “weeds” and wildflowers are starting to bloom now and it feels like a much nicer space than it was before, and far less hassle too.
I was more meaning dandelions and the like by weeds - can’t say I’ve encountered onehunga ever before, but I’ll have to look out for it as I’ve got wee ones too. We do get the occasional thistle which I need to be vigilant about removing, but so far at least everything is barefoot approved
There’s the “The Freedoms & Rights Coalition’s (TFRC) ‘Revolution Convoy 2023’”, and the “Pōneke Anti-Fascist Coalition” counter protest. I haven’t linked to anything about them as I felt that’s probably more of a discussion for the politics sublemmy.
Pretty much all flights in and out of Wellington have been cancelled or diverted. Was supposed to be picking up my partner and daughter but seems like that won’t happen for a few days now due to flight availability:(
I find waterfront too busy and the pedestrians too unpredictable for cycling. And as a pedestrian I dislike being buzzed by e-scooters and bikes speeding by. It’s just not a great place to be mixing bikes / scooters / people.
So to avoid the waterfront I generally use the road, but it’s far from ideal. Even though I can keep up with the traffic I still find myself forced into the gutters and have to contend with some massive potholes and drivers trying to occupy the same physical space as me.
This would be safer for drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists. I’d guess it’d probably be faster for bikes too as you generally have to go pretty slow on certain parts of the waterfront when there’s people around
If that was doable, then for sure - separation of cars and cyclists is always for the best in my view.
I’m not sure how feasible that would be however. There’s plenty of narrow spots that wouldn’t currently accommodate both dedicated bike infrastructure and pedestrians (like by the Crab Shack for instance).
The weather’s not looking great for tomorrow, so if suck with kids and looking for something to do this could be a decent morning / afternoon activity. I took my 4 year old today and he absolutely loved it....
Always good to head up Mt Kaukau on a nice day. At 445m high you get great views over the city and harbor area, as well as over Makara and the South Island beyond....
I’m using an old GoPro (Hero4) I had lying around, and bought a Kaiser Bass (cheap knock off GoPro) so had front and back covered. Works pretty well, the Kaiser is a bit jankey though.
I’ve previously been recommended these: cycliq.com but it’s pretty pricey.
Super blue moon is out and super bright! And for once it’s not too cloudy in Wellington to see it. Just took my little one out to see it before bedtime.
This is fucking ridiculous. Who even would you be tipping in this situation? Guarantee that none of the actual workers see a penny of these “tips”, and that it all goes back into corporate budgets.
More tickets have gone on sale this morning. I’m don’t have a source for this information but I did manage to buy four tickets an hour ago (there were none last night)....
