What entry level infosec jobs do people have open right now?

I love how Northrop Grumman advertises the M230 Bushmaster on its official webpage for the gun on the back of a Hilux.

A member of my team last week mentioned WSL malware and now I’m deeply invested in researching this like a bad new reality show.

hexadecim8,

@randomxusr I'll be pushing for releasable reports on it if/when we find anything good 👍

hexadecim8,

@chiefoldmist Still finding my sea legs after 2020, but hopefully I'll get back in with my old tribe :)

hexadecim8,

@ajn142 @crankylinuxuser I pity the fool who is hamstrung by this use case.

If ends, what conferences will people be going to?

Hey @NatSecGeek & @hexadecim8, have either of you filed any FOIA on kyrie "the Queen of the Hackers"? I was trying to see if she is still alive but am coming up blank.

hexadecim8,

@realhackhistory @NatSecGeek I’m not remembering anyone by that title

From The Pittsburgh Press, 3rd of June, 1984 - "Law enforcers aim to intercept computer invaders" by Ellen M. Perlmutter:

"FBI agents who take a three-week computer course at the FBI Academy in Quantico... how computer fraud works"

Had you heard of this before @NatSecGeek or @hexadecim8? Thinking about firing a FOIA off for records on it.

The article also opens with what sounds like a fascinating story I am unfamiliar with.

hexadecim8,

@realhackhistory @NatSecGeek
I've heard rumors of pre-80's hacks on military assets, but I haven't seen anything confirmed. I do know there were a lot of teenagers poking around that infra around those days.

NEW: A hacktivist group stole and leaked gigabytes of data from the Texas city of Fort Worth.

Breach does not seem to be very serious. City says data is mostly related to work orders to make repairs.

The group, which goes by SiegedSec, said they did it to protest the ban of gender affirming care.

“Did you hear that? :3 schlop schlop Its the sound of gay furries fucking the U.S government~!,” the group wrote in its announcement.

hexadecim8,

@wolf480pl @lorenzofb what's the alternative course of action you would promote?

hexadecim8,

@wolf480pl @lorenzofb Are you suggesting that trans people haven't tried that?

hexadecim8,

@wolf480pl @lorenzofb Maybe if you're not involved in the organizing, and don't know the history, you're not exactly qualified to critique what actions activists are taking? Just a thought.

hexadecim8,

@wolf480pl @RandomDamage So you're proposing that average people who are generally misinformed would....be informed about a hack of the city of Fort Worth, Texas? Weird logic but ok.

hexadecim8,

@wolf480pl @RandomDamage they don’t miss an opportunity to demonize us anyway. Straight up, you need to stop criticizing things you don’t know anything about. Trans people have sat around trying to play nice and all it got is was over 500 new bills and laws to outlaw us in the United States. All of which, btw were introduced and signed before this event happened. Your helpful comments are anything but.

Oh man. As an old goth, I love DraculaClothing and they have some stuff that is not anywhere else, but it's especially cool they still email your password to you in 2023 and that means they are also stored in plaintext. At least they don't process their own transactions. But come on, I need this for the ren faire

hexadecim8,

@hacks4pancakes I feel a barter in the making

These types of attacks are difficult to detect, but a behavior-based detection approach can be used to pick up on patterns of attack. It’s something my team @SophosLabs has been working on. https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/security/blog/2023/05/24/volt-typhoon-targets-us-critical-infrastructure-with-living-off-the-land-techniques/

I teased yesterday that I was finding some interesting stuff for a project I was working on, well, I'm still not going to tell you about the project, but I will tell you a little about what I found in this thread.
