inquisitorales, to random

A little late, but here's the long thread with my impressions (both positive and negative) about 25 demos from the recent Steam Fest. And despite trying my best, I'm still missed quite a few cool looking demos. Seriously, only 1 week is not enough for that kind of events!

inquisitorales,

My personal fav of this Steam Fest was definitely Mullet Mad Jack, roguelike FPS with terrific art-style. I'm not a big fan of games with tight time limit, but they've got the pace just right. Seriously considering getting it day 1 which I rarely do lately.

inquisitorales,

Another surprise is News Tower, a media mogul tycoon set in the 1930's. By far one of the most polished demos I've checked, with excellent presentation and addicting gameplay. It was released today in EA, but I'll probably wait for 1.0 before getting it

inquisitorales,

A wild mix of rhythm game and roguelite with outstanding sound design, fast-paced fluid combat, and stylish graphics. Requires some practice to get in the flow with music at first, but once it clicks, you'll get tons of fun. Can't recommend it enough!

inquisitorales,

This one looks like a competent turn-based 4X strategy game. Very similar to Civilization, maybe even a 𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘵𝘭𝘦 too similar. I'll keep it on my radar, but it's hard to judge this game properly only after 60 turns that are available in demo.

inquisitorales,

Someone finally decided to remake Uru Live? I mean, it looks nice and puzzles has a nice variety. But I don't get why it insists on being always online, co-op is really not essential here. So unless devs would add offline mode, I'm skipping this one, sadly

inquisitorales,

An open-world isometric zombie survival game. The story is an utter nonsense and there are some balance issues. But the open-world works surprisingly well, seeing NPCs fighting for their lives and running away from hordes was fun. Might be worth checking

inquisitorales,

ETS2 in space, lots of potential and good graphics, but lackluster tutorial kinda muddled my impressions. It's strange that such a basic mechanics as fuel/cores management were not properly explained. Still looking forward to try this game out eventually.

inquisitorales,

Despite an excellent art-style, the gameplay of Synregy is buried under ridiculous levels of micromanagement. I really don't want to babysit every citizen to do the most basic stuff, devs should really stop trying to overcomplicate Caesar/Pharaoh concept.

inquisitorales,

A japanese murder mystery VR game. Despite outdated, literally PS2-tier graphics, I enjoyed the story and investigation gameplay. Too bad that it's clearly built for VR first, and KBM input is merely an afterthought. Still plan to eventually get it on sale

inquisitorales,

The first 5 minutes of Pacific Drive were perfect, but then gameplay started and... Let's just say, it has one of the worst tutorials I've ever seen. I got soft-locked twice before even leaving garage, and I had no idea if its a bug or just a badly explained gameplay mechanic. Oh, and the lack of option to disable motion blur is just an icing on the cake. Definitely the biggest disappointment of this Steam Fest for me.

inquisitorales,

A roguelite cyberpunk-themed deckbuilder. I'm not very into card games, but this one was surprisingly easy to pickup and demo run was quite fun. Unfortunately, looks like the game would be rather light on the narrative part, so I'm still undecided about it

inquisitorales,

I knew that SUMMERHOUSE is basically a diorama builder, but I expected to see some sort of gameplay. Or at least a basic tutorial explaining what those UI icons supposed to mean. Yeah, it looks gorgeous, but what's the point? Items selection is extremely limited, and from what it looks like, there's going to be only 3 stages (or rather backgrounds). After spending 10 minutes to build one house, I feel like I've seen everything this game had to offer.

inquisitorales,

Maybe because I'm not a hardcore fan of the series, but I had no issues with Homeworld 3. I've played few co-op matches and had fun, and it's not like we get space RTS games often. I was more interested in campaign tho, which was sadly missing in the demo.

inquisitorales,

Another attempt to recapture the magic of the '90s survival horror classics. Listen, I don't mind tank controls, and I dig the vibe and atmosphere of this one. But why all indie studios who are making such games are also copying a convoluted keyboard control schemes that you can't rebind? Not a fan of complete lack of mouse support either. The game has potential, I just don't agree with the sentiment that survival horror should have a shitty KBM controls.

inquisitorales,

An extraction shooter like Escape from Tarkov, but set in modern Vietnam (what???) and made on UE5. Honestly, a perfect example of how to NOT present your game, it's barely a tech demo that barely works. I'll be surprised if it'll ever reach 1.0 version

inquisitorales,

A city builder with procedurally generated maps. It's decent, but kinda missing some unique selling point compared to other game in the genre. Tutorial could also do a better job in explaining tools for workshops and other aspects of the game properly.

inquisitorales,

Low-budget souls-like, not great, not terrible. Currently not in the mood for that kind of games, but for the right price, it might be worth checking out. After I'll finally play the first game in this series, which I already have somehow.

inquisitorales,

Boomer shooter set in Ancient Rome. Interesting idea, but terrible execution, another case when studios just copying the look of old games, but not their level design. Also, that cheesy metal soundtrack is whack and feels completely out of place here.

inquisitorales,

Basically Hades, but based on Chinese mythology, and... It's pretty good? Combat is fast and fluid, graphics are well drawn, and the story is potentially interesting. It also has a little fox riding a mecha suit.
