I’m not entirely sure why they needed neural networks to come to this conclusion, “spontaneous number neurons” or not. You’d only have to look at eg. the Pirahã language to come to the same conclusion; it doesn’t have numerals and speakers were generally “mathematically illiterate” up until recent times, and teaching any sort of mathematics (ie. including counting) to a monolingual Pirahã speaker was apparently extremely challenging.

Seeing specific neurons or subnets being activated in relation to numerical tasks and assuming that it means numeral sense is somehow innate is honestly a bit of an odd conclusion to make. Yeah, subnets specialize, but that doesn’t mean their specialization is necessarily built into us – just that we have the capacity to do so.

I don’t think it’s a “you problem”; I’ve been having the same issue lately, although just occasionally. Started after the 0.18 Lemmy update so it’s probably either a problem with that Lemmy version, or an infrastructure change Beehaw did around the same time (haven’t logged in to my other Lemmy accounts in a while so dunno the problem exists on other instances too.)

Mut näin vakavasti ottaen, ihan hyvä kysymys sinänsä; ei ne uusnatsit ja vastaavat sieltä Persujen riveistä tai Suomesta sillä katoaisi.

Ei toki tarkota sitä, että niitä pitää erikseen päästää hallitukseen asti, mutta kyllä tässä jotain laajempaa dialogia pitäisi käydä että mitähän vittua tälle laajemmalle ongelmalle nimeltä äärioikeisto oikein tehdään. On meinaan ajan kysymys, että meilläkin nähdään joku Breivik-henkinen oikeistolainen terroriteko – johan näitä on jäänyt kiinni jonkin verran, viimeisimpänä ne aseita tehtailleet rotusodasta fantasioivat ääliöt. Jos nykyhallitus pääsee kurjistamispolitiikkansa viemään haluamaansa pisteeseen, se on aivan satavarmaa että ääriliikkeiden suosio kasvaa, ja se kuuluisa äÄrIvAsEmMiStO nyt ei vaan ole tupannut viime vuosikymmeninä olemaan juuri edes olemassa (ellei nyt laske esim. RKP:tä äärivasemmistoksi kuten Hakkarainen), saatika yhtä väkivaltaista kuin äärioikeisto.

Everything is getting worse as companies are exclusively trying to squeeze more money out of everyone rather than build good products or services. Everything is done by fewer more overworked workers, with shittier components and features that are designed to extract money out of you rather than be useful or “good” (my favorite example is BMW’s subscription based bench warmers.)

Sure, but preinstalling packet snooping on exit nodes as a feature still doesn’t sound like a great move, nevermind how stupid the idea is exactly because, like you said, HTTPS is a thing
