god damn that Melbourne building site inspector on YouTube got a Vision Pro, surely this is the most personalised to me content that could ever exist lmao
Had an idea today for a macOS desktop widget that shuffles through different cards from Brian Eno's ‘Oblique Strategies', before realising you could get the same result with a Photos widget shuffling through an album of PNG’s lol. Super handy little creative prompts for when you're stuck in a project. I use them a lot when writing or working on music.
What do you do when you want to use your old iPhone for continuity camera, but also use a Xiaomi LED monitor lamp? *and are on a budget
Cable tie your iPhone to the monitor bar, add a broken toilet roll holder so it stays in place, and strap a can of beans to its mount to counter balance lmao
@decryption didn’t want to choose between the Belkin MagSafe continuity mount and having the monitor lamp! Tried an articulating arm with iPhone mount that reached over the lamp, but it was somehow more jank and less sturdy than this lmao
Shucked my first hard drive on the weekend! Had a 10TB Western Digital desktop drive sitting around, so popped it in my 8-bay QNAP DAS while installing a 2TB SATA SSD that arrived this week.
Now have 4x 10TB ex-server drives in RAID5 for plex and archives, the shucked 10TB with APFS for daily CCC backups of my work machine, and the 2TB SSD for my iCloud Photo Library. Prettttty goood. Pretty, pretty, pretttttty gooooood.
@decryption I can't see why that wouldn't work if you were ejecting properly, but I move my laptop around a bit too much for that to be practical for me. Before I got the DAS I was thinking about selling the Mac Mini and getting a NAS, but I like having the Mac Mini around as a spare machine I can work off if I ever have issues with my laptop. Plus the energy draw on the M1 isn't that bad that it's impractical to leave on all the time
@decryption I was very close to buying the TR-004 because it had hardware RAID5, but at the last minute saw how slow it is. I got the TL-D800C which is proper 10gbps USB-C and have had a great time with it so far
My little holiday project! Added short text-only entries to the home page of https://blog.wolfjay.com
I wanted something that could sit in-between posting on twitter or mastodon, and a longer self-hosted blog post. Like little notes in the margins of my longer pieces.
and thanks! Slowly making little changes. Next project will be forking it for a personal blog for non-music stuff, but will need to work out some extra filtering stuff for it.
Also, happy I've been able to get it to look good while keeping it pretty lean. Whole site is only 1.4mb including fonts and images
@decryption Yeah it's something I'm thinking about. Definitely leaning towards just having things in the one place, but it's nice to have some things just wolfjay branded. Don't want to complicate it too much but we'll see
