@decryption yes. have grabbed GFX sample files online a few times and been blown away by the quality. Was working in cameras when the first GFX dropped. Incredible shit.

@decryption is there a colourful “hello” that’s flat and not faux 3d? Otherwise looks perfect!

@decryption +1 on the 65” C845 TCL, bought one last year for a similar price and have been very impressed with it. Quelled my OLED TV pining without breaking the bank.

jac_kie_co,
@jac_kie_co@aus.social avatar

@decryption and SO bright! So much TV for the money. If I had to replace it tomorrow I’d get the exact same model, maybe just bigger.

jac_kie_co,
@jac_kie_co@aus.social avatar

@decryption I think that’s the one LTT imported and did some videos on. Honestly, wouldn’t be a bad way to go. And way less finicky than a projector setup I’d imagine.

I've finally gotten around to trying out Tailscale after @decryption dropped many hints about its awesomeness. He wasn't wrong!

Access to all your devices from all your devices is quite the game changer. Also means I may be able to dump a few paid services that give me remote access (Home Assistant's Nabu Casa and Octoprint Everywhere), though I may keep Nabu Casa just to support them.

Super easy to get set up and not nearly as complicated as I initially feared.

@decryption ooooooo setting up a new NAS for my dad before shipping it to him and would fuckin love a write up on tailscale 😮‍💨

    @decryption have been looking at volts! if only there were some in AU without the awful white interior parts. Looks so much better in black. One of the better range exender hybrids from the videos I’ve watched

    @decryption had been considering an EV on a novated lease, but it'll make things tricky also getting a mortgage for a home around the same time so buying something cash would make more sense

    ultimately just want a sub-$10k car that doesn't cost much to refuel or service that's fun to drive and isn't a pain on the highway! is that too much to ask!

    Was thinking maybe an early 00's Corolla Sportivo with the 144kw engine that redlines at 8k that only came with a 6spd, but most of them have been modified heavily so that's a no go.

    Looked at the Volt for a bit but servicing is a bit of a grey area and they're all $16k minimum so would need to really bank on saving money on fuel.

    Maybe a used SP23 Mazda with the manual... but most examples are pretty worn out ¯_(ツ)_/¯

    Idk, but whatever I do end up with it'll be very heavily researched lol

    jac_kie_co,
    @jac_kie_co@aus.social avatar

    @decryption ok ok, I’ll stretch to $15k ha. But it’s still tough!

    jac_kie_co,
    @jac_kie_co@aus.social avatar

    @decryption Pretty awful reliability stories on used Polos, but that might be the right kind of car to look for

    jac_kie_co,
    @jac_kie_co@aus.social avatar

    @decryption Yeah totally. I'd be eager to look after it at that level, but not knowing how it was looked after before I got it would be the dealbreaker. Worst case scenario with them is just too risky I think. I think something that size would be great though

    jac_kie_co,
    @jac_kie_co@aus.social avatar

    @decryption A little update — the 2012 series Suzuki Swift Sport is currently at the top of my list. In my budget, fun to drive at sensible speeds, cheap to service and insure, enough of them for sale to shop around and get a decent deal.

    Need to make a little log of some kind on all the research I'm doing haha.

    @decryption got a test drive booked next week! Sub $40k for the 51 is wild, but might need the 64 in Ballarat

    jac_kie_co,
    @jac_kie_co@aus.social avatar

    @decryption oh really? I thought it was about 100km short on range, main reason I was looking at the 64 was that it’d be able to do it with only one stop to charge instead of maybe 3 with the 51. It’s about 630kms to where my parents place is in Adelaide

    jac_kie_co,
    @jac_kie_co@aus.social avatar

    @decryption still! One 40 minute stop for lunch and a short stroll with the dogs isn’t bad at all. $53k drive away isn’t bad at all for the extra peace of mind and a bit more performance. Could potentially do a novated lease for it as well.

    @decryption in that case I’ll see if I can suss a test drive nearby or rent one for a day

    Realistically would be between 10-15,000km a year, only need to go to Melb once a week and am looking for houses within walking distance of Ballarat station.

    Would be used maybe 50/50 driving for fun vs driving for errands or work.

    Have been oscillating between practical and fun but haven’t known how to work out cost of ownership like you have to try work out a comfy middle ground
