I always find it funny to hear people compare AI (aka LLMs) to Crypto. One is incredibly useful already and the other is full of scams after well over a decade of trying to prove its usefulness...

Even if LLMs don't lead to AGI (my guess is they won't) they provide value TODAY and have a clear runway for improvement that will bring further value (like running them faster, which we know is possible).

A weird thing I get some small amount of joy out of: making email filters to tame my work inbox.

My top 3 favourites (IMO) everyone should do:

• Filter mail from outside the company to a separate folder.
• Filter meeting invites to their own folder.
• Filter anything you're on the CC line to into a separate folder.

Most automated stuff from robots gets insta-deleted too.

Notes to next year me, re:gardening.

Grow:

• way less zucchini, possibly none
• way more potatoes
• way more paste tomatoes
• way fewer slicer tomatoes
• more cucumbers (don’t mix up the zucchini and cucumber seeds next time 🤪)

Other:

• skip the brassicas entirely
• favour stuff that can be harvested as needed rather than during a window of perfection (root vegetables)
• don’t crowd everything so much

This has been “middle aged man learns to grow food” chapter whatever.

Sometimes I quote a”Ricky from Trailer Park Boys” malapropism (e.g “it’s like getting two birds stoned at once”) assuming everyone has seen it and memorized them all.

This assumption is probably quite wrong and there are people who think I’m dumb now. 😀
