Quick ranking of the new iPad Pro set in terms of โ€œooh, this is notably better than the thing that came beforeโ€

  1. Magic Keyboard - markedly betterโ€ฆlike really better

  2. iPad Pro - OLED is slick

  3. Pencil Pro - squeeze to bring up markup tools is cool, but basically the same otherwise so far

jonathanreed,
@jonathanreed@techhub.social avatar

@matt This is not helping me resist buying one.
Did you sell your Vision Pro? Or are you doing both?

Sold my old 11" iPad Pro to a friend and LITERALLY the first issue she had was with the Files app. ๐Ÿซ

But no, it's just nerds who want macOS on iPad.

This honestly feels like a crazy thing to say but the new โ€˜webโ€™ filter on Google search is great! If youโ€™re researching something or looking for a bunch of review on a project (rather than say, a fact) it works really well.

Again, I canโ€™t believe Iโ€™m saying this in the year of our lord, 2024.

That Open AI demo yesterday really upped the game for virtual assistants. Even more interested to see what WWDC brings now. Chat GPT is now leagues ahead of Siri

jonathanreed,
@jonathanreed@techhub.social avatar

That said, the new Chat GPT assistant was a little too keeno for my liking. Not sure I could put up with that endless optimism on a daily basis. I am British after all.

In this weeksโ€™s @club MacStories Weekly column for members I worked through some thoughts Iโ€™ve been having about how Apple might pitch all their new AI features at WWDC. Bearing in mind how impassioned the reaction to their โ€˜Crush!โ€™ ad was, might it be a taste of things to come?

Given an existing app with a decent amount of unsubscribed users, what would be the best way to gate more features without annoying those existing ones? Although the existing users are the ones I want to payโ€ฆ

jonathanreed,
@jonathanreed@techhub.social avatar

@aaron_pearce @agiletortoise Itโ€™s probably good to offer a buffer or a trial for those free users so they can see what the new app is like and try the other premium features so they โ€˜get a tasteโ€™ and hopefully want more?

@matt I also hate how the mini task bar just keeps popping up next to selected items in Illustrator. I literally keep turning it off in the menu and it keeps coming back. Honestly, I love Adobeโ€™s apps for what they can do but their UIs are frequently absolute trash.

I love how so many people are like โ€œthese reviewers are paid offโ€ and this guyโ€™s like, โ€œnah, itโ€™s malpractice for a reviewer to actually give a bad review.โ€

A historically bad tech take that should be put in a museum.

Itโ€™s fairly remarkable how much better Season 2 of the Halo show is than the first.

jonathanreed,
@jonathanreed@techhub.social avatar

@matthewcassinelli I keep hearing this. I might have to give it another go. The first two episodes of season 1 were so bad that I turned them off, which is rare for me.

jonathanreed,
@jonathanreed@techhub.social avatar

@matthewcassinelli Good to hear. Also seems like they know how to film action better. The action in the first 2 episodes was so badly shot but I recently saw a big scene from episode 1 of season 2 and it looked very good (though not perfect).

These Humane reviews really make the product look rough. This is David Pierce having a hilarious for us, horrifying for him, moment. Given how poorly it works for him, this was a refreshing โ€œalmost correctโ€ interaction.
