I ordered a 13-inch base iPad Pro last week. I don’t think I’ll ever do anything on an iPad that requires a 10-core cpu or 16gb ram for an extra $600, but I still feel like I’m missing out somehow and will regret not having it.

I just asked Siri to turn off the lights in the laundry room, and Siri turned off the lights in my office. I could understand confusing laundry room for living room or something, but the "office" is named just office and has no "room" in it. This has been happening for months now and I don't get why it's still not fixed. I'm nervous for iOS 18's potential to introduce even more HomeKit bugs.

So in my laundry room, I installed a Nanoleaf Skylight. Is there something like the Hue Lutron Aurora that works with general HomeKit products? Basically need to make sure no one can toggle the light switch, but also that there’s a button for turning the lights on and off. And I need it to be more nice looking than my current solution of taping over the light switch and sticking a smart button there.

Apple Weather was fine when I lived in California because we basically had no weather, but it is so much worse in North Carolina. Part of that is NC’s weird weather, but Apple’s app seems to be consistently off on when it’s going to rain and how much it’s going to rain compared to other services. Note: it did not rain.

Is Apple making Siri intentionally worse right now to make it seem even better in iOS 18? Because HomeKit stuff is just working like absolute garbage lately. I ask Siri to turn out the lights, but instead all the lights come on. Cool. I know I need to say “off” but “out” worked before. 🤷‍♀️

Cable review courtesy of my kitten: Apple's braided cables are the best because they have the right resistance when you sink your fangs into them and give them a good gnaw. Very satisfying. Non-braided cables are not even worth the chew. Braided cables from other companies are good too, but Apple has really nailed mouthfeel. Durability could be better, though. Already been through two MacBook MagSafe cables.

I'd really like Apple to add a cat on the keyboard mode that triggers when my kitten gets on my MacBook and disables typing/restarting/key presses. It should be fairly easy to detect, I don't generally hit like 5 keys at one time and then hold down keys until they beep.

Here is my persona in visionOS 1.0.2 (first pic) and visionOS 1.1 (second). I did these in the same lighting at the same general time (15 min difference to install beta). It’s hard to tell a difference but I think v1.1 does better with eye color and making eyes look less dead. It still doesn’t understand hair. These also look better on the Vision Pro.

I somehow managed to sleep through my alarm on January 19 so I don’t get my Vision Pro until tomorrow. Small reprieve until I strap a giant weight to my head and sink in to isolation. But seriously, feeling some fomo today. 😭
