I'm halfway into , and it's such a fantastic . Honestly, I think it's just as good as . The visuals are relatively simple, but not in a bad way, and the backgrounds are actually kind of... aesthetically unique? Like, you can tell it's probably not a high-budget series, but the buildings, for example, are interesting to look at. They're somewhat roughly drawn, but it's a very... clever and artistic kind of roughness? Er, I'm not sure how to explain it.

I love how in , Mizukami is not afraid to insert scenes like... a battle between a giant living castle and a giant living mountain. 🤣 I guess you need to be truly creative if you REALLY want to have mobile suits in a medieval setting.

I watched on Saturday and enjoyed it immensely. I'd read the original by Midorikawa Yuki before, so the story itself was not new to me, but I loved the way the adapted it.

is excellent, kind of... maybe not exactly melancholic but, I dunno how to put it, nicely understated in its aesthetic? And it has a bunch of secondary animal characters, too, which is always a plus.

Violet's backstory is much more detailed in the novels (), though her origins are never explained. I guess I'll just have to assume that she was raised and trained by some top secret military organization (unknown even to people like Gilbert). :blobmiou: Oh well, I still haven't finished the book series.

karamergen,
@karamergen@mastodon.social avatar

It's interesting how in the , Violet is an extremely skilled soldier, yet her weapons are generally relatively mundane, whereas in the novel, she wields a literal battle axe. This is probably the only detail I... don't particularly care for (it's a bit TOO fantasy-ish and, I dunno, valkyrie-like for the book's setting), but Akatsuki Kana loves battle axes and scenes of carnage. Trust me. She does. 🤣

Thankfully, the novel actually depicts the process of Violet's adaptation to her new prosthetics; whether it's fully realistic or not is another question, of course, but at least the narrative deals with this topic and admits that no, you can't simply obtain a pair of excellent artificial arms and get used to them immediately.

Incidentally, (the ) is getting licensed in my country. Not gonna lie, I'm surprised that we're still getting new licenses, but oh well, I'll buy it as soon as it becomes available. I like Yuki and Itsuomi's romance, and if nothing else, apparently the story is supervised by an actual sign language expert, so I assume it's realistic enough.

Ah, yes, so I completed right before New Year and really enjoyed the finale despite my... well, lack of enthusiasm about the college arc. I think I actually liked it more in form, in fact.

I also ended up shipping Chise/Philomela a bit? I'm too much of an Elias/Chise shipper to be very serious about other pairings, but yeah. Their interaction was good and intense.

Saw yesterday! :blobmiou: As a long-time fan, I'm honestly super happy with this adaptation of my favorite arc. I think the is a tiny bit more... I dunno, eerie and melancholic, but hey, maybe it's just me. The movies are still great.

I completed and (2018) yesterday. :blobmiou: I can safely say that is an excellent little series. Rather straightforward, yes, but very well-made and... I dunno, genuine? The finale made me feel good, and I know I'll miss these characters.

As for , in a way I'm glad I finished it in 2023 (after a long pause). Due to some personal (and international) circumstances, the second half of the Isurugi Rei arc and the Nurarihyon arc actually affected me really strongly.

I'm not opposed to remakes at all, and unlike many people I don't think they're necessarily 'soulless' compared to older adaptations (for example, I like more than ). I guess I'm just surprised.

Saw the newest movie yesterday. As an Akane fan, I enjoyed it a lot. 💞 The story takes place somewhere between the Sinners of the System trilogy and the third season, which is an interesting writing decision.

karamergen,
@karamergen@mastodon.social avatar

Is this going to be the final installment of the franchise? The third season (or rather, the First Inspector movie) does contain some sequel hooks, but on the other hand... Eh, I dunno, honestly. I love , but it doesn't need to be milked forever.

This is totally random, but I'm old enough to remember the great fandom era of character shrines and similar kinds of fansites. And... man, I miss them so much sometimes? There are still people who make them, so it's not like this type of fandom activity is completely obsolete, but, well, yeah.

@anianimalsmoe Unfortunately it doesn't seem to have any! As for me, I'm somewhat into car racing (mostly because it's one of my father's passions, haha), so I actually do find the racing bits interesting. But yeah, it can't be helped if it simply isn't your genre.

The Ministry of Justice () is trying to outlaw the entire 'LGBT community' as an 'extremist organization' because evidently our country doesn't suck ENOUGH. I mean, I'm not even surprised, but.
