Has "dafuq!?" / “dafuck!?” worked its way into the common vernacular enough at this point for it to NOT be cultural appropriation when my white ass uses it?
Because… that's a damn good word. It beautifully expresses SO MUCH of my lived experience.
Someone mentioned being at a friends house & their watch warning them about loud env (>90dB) from friends dogs barking.
This is my life 2x a day. Our young dog CAN NOT CONTAIN HIMSELF as I prepare their meal. It takes like 3 mins to prepare. 🤦♀️😿 We've been trying to quiet this behavior for 3 years.
Unfortunately, I'm @actuallyautistic & that constant high stimulus first thing in the morning WILL send me into autistic shutdown.
Before I dug into what it meant to be @actuallyautistic
self-care like wearing those muffs would be something I would avoid because society pushes us to "suck it up" or "not be dramatic" or whatever because "normal" people don't need that.
This is one of the reasons I think its SO important for us to help the undiagnosed autistic folks around us to go take a test. https://embrace-autism.com/autism-tests/
Embracing it means learning to take care of your needs, regardless of society's norms.
@actuallyautistic Also, by "outing" ourselves as autistic and speaking about it to them without stigma helps to normalize the idea. Helps them to see us as real people.
Of course, some people are bigoted abelist ass-holes so obviously some care must be taken with outing yourself.
I can't get excited about this Kickstarter update at all, because it 100% feels like
We got sick of sitting around for years while Backerkit took all the money we left on the table.
So, we copied all their stuff.
the thing about better surveys is just fucking insulting, because that's been a major problem for creators for years & they just KEPT ignoring it despite it being pretty damn easy to fix.
the kickstarter "here's our new 💩" announcement video was still open in my browser and I hadn't finished it, so i tried and I'm just getting more upset the more I watch.
SO MANY THINGS are just like "🖕 fuck you. you've been refusing to give creators that FOR YEARS and then you're like 'look how great we are'. No. Fuck you. You made creators deal with TERRIBLE tools FOR YEARS and have the gaul to not even acknowledge that your 🐄💩 is why they turned to BackerKit?"
I am a naturally loud person. Not just volume, though, I am usually either talking to myself, to the dogs, singing something, or having echolalia with a nearby appliance.
On the occasions where I become aware of the fact that I am currently being loud my mind always harkens back to a moment in The Crying Game where Forest Whitaker is telling the story of the scorpion and the frog. The last line is “I can’t hept it. It’s in my nature.”
I've just pushed a bunch of #accessibility changes for screen readers to the main branch of FediThready. ( It makes long texts into post sized chunks)
I've run through it with #VoiceOver and it seems ok. HOWEVER it all feels like it's "usable" instead of "good".
If there's a #a11y geek out there who uses screen readers regularly I would REALLY appreciate some suggestions on how to make this actually feel good for folks who rely on screen readers.
Last night i left a little rant about how #Duolingo 's lack of explanations for anything made it impossible to derive when or why you'd use some observable rules AND that it made it impossible to know if it the sentence was correct or an AI generated fuck-up.
It was Perfect fodder for "reply guys", but instead 2 folks showed why i love #Esperanto They stepped up helped. One dug out a helpful link, another explained things in detail that took time.
@number6 Yeah, i've got lots of resources where i can get help. There's a subreddit and a stack exchange for Esperanto & probably many mailing lists and other things. There's even an esperanto mastodon host ( https://esperanto.masto.host )
My concern is more that it's not JUST missing key information, but that I ALSO don't trust that it's giving me valid examples anymore. Without the grammar material i have no way to confirm or deny any of my suspicions without going elsewhere.
I'm seriously thinking about quitting Duolingo, because the more advanced the conjugations get the less clue i have what the fuck is going on because they literally Never explain Anything.
Ex. In #Esperanto "el" means "from" & "de" means "of"
I came FROM the United States
Mi venis EL Usono.
The House OF Usher
La domo DE Usher.
and yet, it's insisting that when you go FROM France to Germany it's

Also once you've got the basics of grammar from Lernu and are actually at the stage of being able to read Esperanto, there is PMEG https://bertilow.com/pmeg/
