If your new Apple Pencil Pro is refusing to let you enable the Double Tap or Squeeze gestures (in Settings > Apple Pencil), it’s probably because you’ve disabled the Double-Tap Gesture in Settings > ACCESSIBILITY > Apple Pencil. The latter seems to act as a master cutoff for both gestures in the primary settings, weirdly. Anyway, panic averted.

Apple Pencil Pro integration goodness.

  1. The shadow of the pencil on the screen isn’t an optical phenomenon; it’s digitally generated!

  2. You can expand the fan-shaped tool palette with a finger or the pencil.

Another thing: those dynamically-generated shadows of the Pencil Pro, mimicking its orientation and tilt, aren’t just of the regular shape of the Pencil. They’re shadows of the tool you’re using. So you’ll see the shadow of a fountain pen being cast beneath the physical Pencil if you’re using the fountain pen tool, and so on.

Another update from the tiniest (perhaps?) workshed in Scotland. This one is mostly about safety stuff, and the two most dangerous power tools in the shed. https://youtu.be/cIUHjCiNWlk

(Not to be one of those youtube jackhats, but engagement is always appreciated. 👍)

@mattgemmell Do you use version control for your books? I'm reading a book about git and they are using scenarios about writing a book as examples. Just curious.

@dxzdb I haven’t found that sort of granularity of versioning useful for fiction, no. I do manually keep old versions of scenes when I change them substantially or remove them, plus a backup of each major draft revision. Then I have Ulysses’ own auto backups (hourly for last 6 hours of work, daily for last 5 days, weekly for last 2 months, on a rolling basis). I also snapshot before and after big edits, or rearrangements like chapterisation.

Considering putting some money on Federighi having rebranded as crAIg for the WWDC keynote.

Well I’m impressed.

@craiggrannell They’re definitely doing some fancy post-split clean-up and isolation. That was a dirty live-gig bootleg, and it’s remarkably clear after just running the splitter. I haven’t touched the mix at all.

Even in a very small workshop, there's room for hidden or non-obvious tools and features. Here are some secrets in the Tiniest Workshed in Scotland: https://youtu.be/6gat3XlUn_w

@dxzdb I’ve made things for her greenhouse (mobile potting bench, shelving, tool holders, installed trellises for peas) but I know nothing about the actual plants and what’s growing in there. I can’t identify anything that’s green!

@dxzdb Ah right. Glass, kit, no heater but considering. Gets past 50°C in there at this time of year. Wind doesn’t bother it at all. It opens its own skylights as needed.
