morgiedama,

I know there has been some posts of wanting an Archery community, but at the same time the conversations I've seen have also wondered about the widespread appeal of it, and the plan (if a main community isn't created) is to keep posting in sports until (if) there is enough interest.

Edit: I want to second @Lost_Wanderer's idea of OutdoorSports which would capture Archery as well.

morgiedama,

I do like the OutdoorSports idea.

morgiedama,

I believe that is the idea of not allowing anyone but the admins to create communities. It helps slow down the community creation so we don't get super niche communities that may not work out.

morgiedama,

I feel like this is a healthy thing to do. We all want to enjoy the fediverse and being able to work with other admins where they may have been some problem users and create lasting working relationships towards a goal that would benefit everyone is a great next step for strengthening lemmy as a whole. Thanks for the update!

morgiedama,

Definitely a good video and this is basically how my dad taught me to shoot. I focus on the target and then let the sight get in between my eye and the target.

Definitely feel the nerves comment he made. When the blood starts pumping when a deer is 20-30 yards away, its tough to keep still!

morgiedama,

I tend to daydream (or actually dream) up ideas then run them around my head for a while then when I feel like I have something worth while to write I will sit down and write. I try to get into the mindset of the character or scenario I am writing and just see where it goes. I tend to have very little ideas on where the plot will be going and just explore. This might lead to me writing myself into a corner, but it also leads to some really interesting ideas and spaces to play around with.

morgiedama,

I have done archery in the past. Have a compound bow for hunting but want to get back into archery as a whole for sure.

morgiedama,

I have been overlooked my entire life. I have lived in the shadow of my brother. By the age of two he was reciting poetry and reading ancient philosophy, while I was playing with blocks and learning to speak. My parents favored him and showered him with their love and praise while I was left to fend for myself. By the age of ten he had been granted a seat on NCWP, the National Council for Worldwide Peace, which oversaw the direction of the country and its relations with the other nations. I was trying to find where my next meal came from as our parents seemingly forgot they had another child.

I’ve cut ties with all of them and for the past ten years have been living in the streets honing my skills to one day get back at them. Yet, no matter what idea I had, there always seemed to be a perfect response from my brother, even though he should have had no idea what I was planning. At times it almost felt like he was having me tailed or was inside my head reading my thoughts, it was unnerving to say the least.

I had given up on getting back at my family, as it seemed no matter what, there was nothing I could do. I couldn’t go and ask for forgiveness as I’m sure they forgot that I even existed. One day, however, I saw a picture of my brother plastered all over the front page of the newspapers, he was surrounded by a group of people all smiling and laughing. One headline read “YOUNGEST PERSON CHOSEN AS POPE” and another read “NEW POPE CONSIDERED THE CHOSEN ONE”. I couldn’t believe it, my family wasn’t even religious, how on Earth did my brother become the Pope. I grabbed one of the papers and read through the article. In it I saw that apparently the “chosen one” was so well loved and respected that he united all religions and peoples and brought about world peace. World peace? Where was my peace, I was thrown to the side and forgotten by this so-called “chosen one”! I was forced to steal and scrape by to survive while those people lived in the lap of luxury, how could they say they united all people when I was still left out?

A thought pierced my mind. They have left me out and forced me to steal to survive. Why shouldn’t I use those skills to steal back what I am owed for my miserable existence? If peace had truly come to the world, then where was my olive branch? Where was my unity? The only way I could be whole once more is to inflict as much chaos as I could, and the only way I knew how to do that was to take everything from my “brother”. After this I will no longer be overlooked, I will be known by everyone as the only person in history to steal from the sacred Vatican vaults and bring down the “chosen one”.

Morgiedama here, apparently this is the start of my villain arc.

morgiedama,

Do you feel a bit more connected to your work when writing with pen and paper?

morgiedama,

That seems like a pretty efficient system, do you ever have any issues with syncing pages?

morgiedama,

I haven't done technical writing, but it makes sense that it's a whole different world from purely creative writing. If I had to do any, I'm sure pen and paper would be my go to initially to get my thoughts out on the page.

morgiedama,

lol its only pretentious if you take it to a coffee shop and write on it. I've always wanted to get a typewriter, my mom had one when we were young but it didn't work very well. I do remember the smell of the ink and clicks of the keys though it was fantastic.

morgiedama,

If it works it works that's for sure.

Now I could never wrap my head around mind maps, do you have any tips or tricks for how you used it when you were using it?

I enjoy pen and paper too, but mainly for journaling because then I don't have to go back and try and figure out what I wrote!

morgiedama,

Anything to save time while editing is never a bad thing! I may have to give that a shot next time I am working on something, but first I need to make sure my handwriting is legible.

morgiedama,

I have looked into fountain pens before and my head started spinning lol. It may be something that I need to check out, do you have any fountain pen basics or starter pens to look at?

morgiedama,

I believe I have tried yWrite in the past but can't remember how it went. I don't think it was a bad experience, or rather if I was focused on finding the "right" software. Hopefully it works well for you!

Fountain pens seem to be the main writing tool for pen and paper. Excited to look into them more.

morgiedama,

lol that can be my issue as well, something new is fun.

I'll check out Obsidian, I haven't heard of that one before!

morgiedama,

Thanks for the suggestion! I will check it out and look for that community.

morgiedama,

That makes sense, I think I always was worried that there was a right or wrong way to use it, and didn't experiment with it as much as I should.

morgiedama,

I feel that, it's almost a job in of itself to find one that works and when you hear of a new one it makes you think "maybe this one is the one" even though it usually isn't

morgiedama,

I get the same way so no worries there! I think I found one but gonna refine my searches to see if there are any others out there.

Edit: Looks like the only one I can find is !fountainpens

morgiedama,

Just ordered the Platinum Preppy with two extra ink cartridges for $16 shipped. I'm excited to try it out when it arrived!

morgiedama,

I've never heard of Royal Road before, might check it out! That's an interesting way to use discord as well I wouldn't have thought of that.

Also I love serial fiction, its such a fun format!

morgiedama,

Thanks for the link! I'm definitely going to check it out.

Have you ever heard of writefreely.org? I haven't looked too deeply into it yet but I believe it's a federated writing website. Could be another place to post to get grow your audience. But I do know how hard it is to add another site when you're in a groove, so just thought I'd bring it up

morgiedama,

I second Let's Game it Out. Josh is insane
