I'm not sure what 's "gold presents every day for VIPs" promo was meant to do, but seeing the whole run reinforced my position to never pay for presents. I even saw speculation that the rewards were reduced for the duration. Probably not though. They're just not good period, let alone worth it.

I guess maybe it convinced some people to log in every day, but festivals/tasks/transmutes/crates etc. do that already. This seemed like a net negative for the game.

@skro Yeah, that does make sense - but then, if they can count you only once for an MAU anyway, and they've convinced people the gold presents aren't worth buying, I'm not sure it's a net positive. Plus they popped the Mariner and the preorder in the same period, so folks still would've come back.

I hope you got good freebies from the golds though. :D

We've got an update on that PvP MMO Abyss that wanted $1000 for currency and said all successful MMOs sell gold: It's actually a rehash of a crypto MMO called Metagates: https://massivelyop.com/2023/08/29/abyss-is-a-new-pvp-centered-sandbox-mmorpg-coming-in-2024-and-its-already-selling-currency/ (Thank you, Protobear!)

I am perpetually baffled about how to deal with MMOs that leaped headfirst into crypto scams, failed utterly, and then one day decided to pretend it never happened and went back to updating the games exactly the way they were before the scam with nary a mention of the NFT/P2E gunk again.
