Researcher Meredith Whittaker says AI’s biggest risk isn’t ‘consciousness’—it’s the corporations that control them

"Based on our findings, if Copilot is used by expert developers in software projects, it can become an asset since its suggestions could be comparable to humans’ contributions in terms of quality. However, Copilot can become a liability if it is used by novice developers who may fail to filter its buggy or non-optimal solutions due to a lack of expertise."

The thin waist of the internet architecture and the end-to-end principle fostered innovation: anyone could conceive and deploy new services: e-mail, file transfer, WWW, P2P sharing, search engines, videoconferencing,... but also private info collecting apps, attention seeking apps, unsafe+unethically developped AI enabled chatbots,...

In the early times bad outcomes affected very few people but today the whole humanity benefits and suffers the consequences.

The time to regulate more has come.

I think this Stephen Wolfram article about neural nets/machine learning/LLMs/ChatGPT is really good: https://writings.stephenwolfram.com/2023/02/what-is-chatgpt-doing-and-why-does-it-work/

It can be used to learn if you don't know, or to learn how to explain if you already know. Explanations from scratch of LLMs, embeddings and ChatGPT are really good IMHO.

I add it to the learnable cathegory:
