just got a call from my youngest's 4th grade teacher

TEACHER: apprehensively "we have to report something that happened today with your son"

ME: oh god oh god oh god "oh? how can i help?"

T: "john was in the bathroom using the urinal and a few other boys came in, who then made fun of him" (not going into why here)

M: "oh no is he ok?"

T: "he's fine but the two boys came to me and told me that he mooned them"

M: confused "wha? he mooned them?"

T: "yes. he showed his butt and slapped it. he didn't bring it up to me, but when i approached him about it he admitted to it."

M: desperately trying to hold it together "so, he got picked on, retaliated so hard that the other kids felt offended enough to tell you, and he kept it to himself?"

@jerry oh i understand the trade offs, but a little context... he can be a bit "checkboxy" and was hoping my analysis would have just been, "this is good", not "here's a 20 point generalized list of everything this can't see"

my junior high best friend is starting a new healthcare business. he wanted it to be cutting edge for technology, and he wanted me to make a IT consultancy & IT support business he could contract out to.

i made the business, got all the paperwork done, got the accounts, got the website, etc etc.

i even did things like an SOW, NDA, and others.i tried to keep it as legit as possible. as he is also starting a business and cash flow is tight we offered to defer our invoicing, so we are basically paying for everything. i know for a fact that he would be able to cover it in a few months and so i didn't mind (and still don't mind)

we went to two of his offices on a saturday to wire and hookup switches/APs to both offices. this was a 16+ hour day. so my bushiness partner and i are committed to getting this running.

recently, there was a major issue with one of the providers, not my fault. my company wrote up a root cause analysis (RCA) stating what happened etc.

i got a reply back days later from him that accused us of lying in the RCA and that we hadn't made the tickets we said we did etc.

none of it made sense in the context of the issue, or the RCA.

tons of email back and forth later... now he's refusing to get on a call with my partner and i to prove out the timeline (we have receipts)

this feels like he just realized how much top tier IT/Security professionals are, and is trying to find a way out of paying us (no proof/confirmation yet)

like we're close to lawsuit level.... this sucks

@darkuncle i've been friends with my business partner for 5+ years, we work well together. i think it's more the vendor/customer dichotomy that's the bad part.

    @howelloneill well my place is locked into crowdstrike basically forever, so my boss thought it prudent to send me. i hate vegas too, which doesn't help.

    i have been to a few vendor cons that weren't bad, but yea most of them are the opposite of fun.

    fal.con has been a waste, don't come here... or if you're not like me and like Vegas, come here to get a week long trip to Vegas paid for by your company.

    everything here i could have gotten by asking for CrowdStrike add on demos or marketing emails

    i do have training today, hopefully this was worth the trip. but i don't think it'll be worth it

    i was just looking around as the real conference hasn't yet started. i immediately left for my hotel.
