✨ I spent 3 months writing the best interactive introduction to queueing I could, and it's live now!

It then introduces queues as a way to handle an unpredictable request load. You, the reader, drive this post from start to finish.

But queues have trade-offs! If requests spend too long in them, users will give up and refresh or leave. Servers also waste time processing requests that have timed out.

Almost a year since I started playing and I've finally hit 600 .

I've seen some IMs say that the 'hell wall' in is around 600, and my play is highly volatile depending on how tired/well/hungover I am, so I'm not expecting to get much better quickly.

I'm not sure what to aim for next. Double my rating in the next year? Hit 1,000 by end of the year? Maybe six months? Something like that.

Had some feedback that gave me an idea, and I think I really like it.

A video that shows a sneak peak from my upcoming blog post. At the top is a box labelled "tasks", in that box there are two list items: - Click the button to send a request to the server. - Click the button rapidly to see a request get dropped. Below that is another box with a circular button on the left, and a black square on the right. A cursor moves to the button and clicks. An orange circle is fired from the button to the square, and then slowly disappears. As this happens, the first list item gets struck through. Then the cursor clicks rapidly, and one of the orange circles bounces off the square because there's already a circle inside it. As it does, it turns red and falls off screen. The 2nd list item gets struck through.
