Y'all, I'm embarrassingly ignorant in this aspect, but I need some help working with VSCode extensions.

I'm looking at the GIT repository for one and have downloaded the zip...and there are other extensions I've "installed," but I don't know how to actually access the tools provided by most of them.

In math terms, I'm way past arithmetic, pretty comfortable with trigonometry, but this feels like calculus, which seems to be waaay on the far horizon.

scopique,
@scopique@gamepad.club avatar

@PartPurple Is the xtension not avilable in the VSCode marketplace?

scopique,
@scopique@gamepad.club avatar

@PartPurple the npm intstall did not work with the extension?

@PartPurple Ah, OK. Hmmmm

scopique,
@scopique@gamepad.club avatar

@PartPurple Interesting...I installed it, and CTRL + SHIFT + P didn't give it to me when I started to type, but when I clicked in the search box, chose SHOW AND RUN COMMANDS, I could SCROLL to it...then it showed up using C+A+P

Posted this in a comment on @Tipa's amazing blog ( https://chasingdings.com/ ) but wanted to throw it out to the world in general

"Between you & @scopique I’m kind of feeling that love of coding starting to maybe return.

I really miss back when I just LOVED to code. Not sure when/how I lost it, but I suspect a lot of it has to do with my job now being 100% fixing things and never building anything new. But I can build new stuff on my own time, for me!"

scopique,
@scopique@gamepad.club avatar

@Nimgimli @Tipa Gawd yeah. I learned that 'get a job doing what you love and you'll never 'work' another day in your life' was complete BS when I got a job as a developer. I didn't end up hating development, just having to do it for other people with other people's rules.

I still love doing development for myself, but some days, after work, I don't want to SEE any more code...because of the job, not the activity.

scopique,
@scopique@gamepad.club avatar

@Nimgimli @Tipa Absolutely. My desk is near my work desk, but sometimes I wish I had a "good" laptop I could take elsewhere in the house to work on my own stuff.

Sad to hear this news about Microsoft closing down 4 studios, in particular Tango Gameworks. I really enjoyed Ghostwire Tokyo and thought that Hi-Fi Rush was pretty well received.

I get that companies exist to fatten up their coffers and those of their shareholders but this is Microsoft... I can't imagine the cost of these studios was moving the needle all that much.

Or maybe that's just sour grapes on my part.

scopique,
@scopique@gamepad.club avatar

@Nimgimli Nah, not just you. I feel like this is more of a "throw it at the wall and see what sticks" and then cut it when it doesn't make AAA money (or even AA money, maybe A money).

Meanwhile, players get invested in a lot of cases, and now they get shafted. Like how Paradox crapped all over Star Trek: Infinite for no good reason. Perfectly good implementation; lost support in under a year after release. Why? They don't seem to care much.

Developing Without Breaks

I've coded myself into a corner on account of trying to bring too many new-to-me systems on-line all at the same time.

At the very least, that doesn't look like a normal URSA interior:

@Plus_Ultra I am waiting for opportunities to really USE ground vehicles. I mean, we CAN, of course, but I think the new mapping systems will help some. It's kind of hard to drive anywhere with the ground being what it is.

scopique,
@scopique@gamepad.club avatar

@Plus_Ultra True, true...

I saw someone, somewhere mention the other day that what SC needs is a primary-city-sized zone, but fully realized a la GTA that we can drive around and walk around.

That would blow the doors off absolutely everything else, IMO.

scopique,
@scopique@gamepad.club avatar

@Plus_Ultra I think that would open the door to all kinds of QOL features like spreading out living spaces and even multiple landing zones to take the heat off of central locations.

Hell, let people rent property and open storefronts. Persistent shops with custom content. Bad sections of town for PvP. Mission opportunities.
