Protip for the aurora watchers: if you have a tripod or a way to rest your iPhone still, you can enable Night Mode and swipe up on the bottom bar of the camera app (or tap the arrow) to adjust Night Mode settings to a 30s exposure
@stroughtonsmith one downside to a long exposure is that you'll lose some definition because the Aurora moves around quite a bit in 30 seconds. It's like taking a long exposure of running water.
I did a couple of night mode timelapses of the Aurora on my Pixel phone. Unfortunately, the compression softened the image because it was quite low contrast to begin with
@daringfireball beyond the Disney+ app, I’m seeing a lack of fun with the Vision Pro. Many of the best experiences I’ve had in VR, even outside of gaming, just aren’t there. Exploring in Google Earth VR is fun. Painting in Tilt Brush and sculpting in SculptrVR is fun. Hanging out with others in a shared virtual 3D space is fun, whether just talking, doing one of the previously mentioned activities, or playing poker or mini golf.
@genecowan@macrumors the focus distance for VR headsets is typically in the 1 to 2 meter range. You won't need multi-focal lenses, because everything will be the same focus distance.
You can get a hint about the focus distance by watching Apple's videos about the Vision Pro. The typical (virtual) distance of the floating app windows is likely a close match to the device's focus distance.
@daringfireball I would think a half press would bring up a camera viewfinder if you weren't already using the camera app. Continuing to a full press would take a photo, and a press-and-hold to take a video. Maybe it could even support a slide gesture to keep recording when you let go of the button, like the software shutter button.
@daringfireball "where the oppressed are viewed as inherently just"
Most of the stories about this didn't report this part:
Stefanik: It’s a yes or no question. Is that correct? Is that okay for students to call for the mass murder of African Americans at Harvard? Is the protected free speech?
President Gay: Our commitment to free speech -
(Stefanik interrupts)
Stafanik tried to find a double standard, but stopped that line of questioning when it looked like it wasn't going her way.
@Nifflas I'm half boycotting Twitter... I'm using it read-only. I saw your "what happens when you die" poll and it reminded me of this short story: http://www.galactanet.com/oneoff/theegg_mod.html
I actually had a very similar idea, but found the short story while looking to see if others had had the same idea.
