I’ve had this conversation with my SO. Technically speaking the best move for me as a white male would be to support Trump. Instead I vote for Democrats hoping for positive changes for all people. For most of my life I’ve thought I was “far left” for American standards, but since I’ve joined portions of Lemmy and Reddit you’d think I was a fucking Republican.

Certain portions of the left would rather spit in their own eye for unrealistic principles, even if it means that a worse alternative is the result.

But have you considered the perspective that voting in literal fascists makes communism more possible somehow?

People are fed up with the endless support for genocide and war, with high interest rates, rent and inflation. Democrats being in power has done basically nothing to stop the right wing takeover in states .

I don’t think I’ve ever run into someone with the position that voting one way or another is going to make communism happen faster though.

I use mechanical switches when I’m making a panel or something on a device that I don’t want to break after getting pressed a bunch. Membrane switches just break a lot, and for industrial applications (ie gloves, metallic dust, operating by touch) capacitive panels can be unreliable.

The tactile response is what’s useful, so for people using the panel with gloves, say I want a directional control for navigating a menu I can just throw down some arrow keys and have a lot of options for keycaps if I don’t need it sealed. I try to make things relatively easy to repair so using parts which are commonly available is a plus.

I will say I do get annoyed at mls ranting about anarchists in a vacuum for the exact reason, and that’s honestly why I gravitated to hexbear. There’s plenty we agree on, and a lot that everyone should learn from history. Trying to make some sort of us vs them thing is wrecker behavior.

I thought it was a good exchange overall, situational awareness is an important component of posting. I generally try to keep in mind the audience. Sometimes showing up to be combative when things are otherwise winding down can do more harm than good.
