@slicedlime
Are there any other mojang devs actively posting in the fediverse? I miss the old chit-chat between devs and community from the twitter days 😔
@ryanc I use 5 different USB plugs already. Maybe once this tech has evolved to the point where we don’t obsolete everything every three years we can start discussing that.
Cohost: left after awful EULA + no API support. EULA now fixed, but don't really feel a draw to go back. Not a fan of the UX, not enough network effect to force it, too many other options now to care. Haven't looked in forever.
Cafe: empty wasteland. Tried to put in effort to figure it out, but all I found was a facebook-like experience of groups, something I've never been very interested in. Probably misunderstanding it, no incentive to put more effort in. Haven't looked in forever.
Bluesky: Looks like a pretty clear-cut twitter clone with lots of fancy tech claims... which kind of good? 6 months in waiting line not enough to get in, so had to get an invite. Mostly empty wasteland for me, not finding many people to follow despite putting effort in.
Mastodon: Like the concept, have had an account for a long time but never used it much until twitter died (1st time). Instance turned out to have an increasingly awful admin so moved - which was an awkward process. Finding more interesting content. Clear winner so far.
Fragmentation is a big problem, but that's pretty much inevitable. Bluesky and Mastodon both seem like possible successors - both with their own problems. Less problems than Twitter itself though, so ¯_(ツ)_/¯
