Sorry for the extended downtime, I messed up when attempting to copy over the media. I should have just rsync’d it to begin with, rather than attempting to compress it first....
AFAIK https://matrix.to/#/#lo_canada:mozilla.org is the biggest Canada themed matrix chat room. It's not partnered with Lemmy.ca or anyone and I believe they were asked before and didn't want to partner up....
I like this idea as well. I could put it on my matrix server, or wherever else, doesn't really matter to me. Can also put it in the sidebar of the instance as well.
I'm wondering if this is an issue with this instance, or a deliberate choice by either server operator which communities to federate between lemmy.ca and the other server?...
I believe that's just how the federation works on lemmy, if the no one has searched and/or subscribed to the remote community, you will get the 404 error code.
hope that makes sense!
edit: also, when searching for it, give it a good 5-10 seconds for the result to show up. i believe it needs to query the server and takes a bit sometimes.
I am using Archlinux as a server for my infrastructure. Does anyone have experience with ignoring kernel upgrades on Archlinux for a while? If so, how do you decide on what kernel release you are staying? If you upgrade the kernel, have you found a way to circumvent having to restart the machine?
partial upgrades aren't supported I believe, but i believe if you really wanted you could add the following line to your /etc/pacman.conf:
IgnorePkg = linux
myself, I just depending on the server i'm upgrading, i just don't update as frequently and reboot the machine if needed (i don't think there's any getting around that).
There has been a steady trickle of new users here today, and in the past little while, mostly due to the bad decisions that reddit is currently making....
So if I look at a community’s page on the instance proper, like: lemmy.ml/c/artificial_intel . There are posts there that are not reflected when I look at it from lemmy.ca: lemmy.ca/c/artificial_intel@lemmy.mlIncluding a post that I’ve posted from Lemmy.ca!...
it was recommended for all instances. it would definitely cut down on spammers, but may discourage actual users from signing up too? just wanted to get everyone’s thoughts on the matter....
Migration to new server successful!
Sorry for the extended downtime, I messed up when attempting to copy over the media. I should have just rsync’d it to begin with, rather than attempting to compress it first....
Since Lemmy.ca is really gaining new users, we could try again to make a Lemmy.ca instance chat room on discord + element + telegram and bridge them all together. Thoughts?

Some communities on other servers not working/federated? (lemmy.ca)
