👇 This, from that Dorsey interview, is so revealing. For him, decentralisation and federation just to avoid liability - or as normal people might put it, not having to worry about hurting individuals and society by carrying harmful, abusive, illegal content. 🤮

📰 In light of <waves hands expansively>, I spoke to Kate Lyons at @guardianaus about the continuing decline of Xitter the other day:

The demise of Twitter: how a ‘utopian vision’ for social media became a ‘toxic mess’

🖨️ I've been asked so much recently about the future of news on Facebook in Australia that I've tried to organise my thoughts in a new blog post.

And I've also finally shared my foreword for @dhutchman's new book, about the and the 2021 news ban.

Right, so in a surprise inversion of my recent posts about double albums that should have been single albums, here’s one that’s long enough for a double but somehow managed to fit on a single CD.

snurb,
@snurb@aoir.social avatar

I still don’t understand how this is even possible. I always thought there was a nominal maximum length of 74 minutes for CDs (because Mr Sony loved Beethoven), and a hard physical limit around 80 minutes. First I’ve seen to go well above that… 😲

Wheee, just had a quick chat with ABC News Radio about Instagram downranking 'political' content. This follows on from my comments in that @abcnews story on the same topic yesterday (👋 @qutdmrc):

Whoever is actually behind this, there’s an even chance Putin will instrumentalise this to further cement his dictatorship in the same way that the Reichstag fire was instrumentalised.

Why are Australian media reporting Trump’s Rudd slur as anything other than a kneejerk reaction to being told that someone he’d never heard of before had criticised him ?

The real scandal here is how quickly David Littletobeproudof has jumped on the anti-Australian bandwagon.

(If you told Trump that Zaphod Beeblebrox had called him the worst president in the galaxy, Trump would’ve called Zaphod a total loser and a bit soft in the head, too… It’s. What. He. Does. When. Challenged. 🙄)

🟥🟨🌊 This is such a valuable beach safety piece. ABC News should be posting this up at the start of every summer season, not at the end of one.

😣 Literally everyone (except perhaps the hapless Josh Frydenberg) saw this one coming:

For some analysis on why Meta doesn't care one whit about news on Facebook, here's some @qutdmrc research @antmandan and I prepared earlier:

I may be overly polemic here, but I guess NewsCorp will now need to find a business model that doesn't depend on having government force a more profitable business to hand over part of its revenue. Good luck, I guess.

Just wondering: is the Tucker Putinson thing the first time that an FSB asset‘s meeting with his handler has been televised ?

"Filter bubble" is the meme that won't die, despite being debunked (see: @snurb's Are Filter Bubbles Real?). In the end, it's snobbery about voices heard online, not algorithms.

@Beeks @jeffjarvis No. Not in any definition of the word that doesn’t actually simply mean ‘community’, anyway.

Not to alarm anyone, but I think there may be a storm coming. 🌩️🌩️🌩️

A storm approaches with plenty of lightning in the clouds.

@liampomfret So there’s rain in it ? All we’ve had here so far is a very slow-moving light show. No wind at all, and can’t even hear the thunder yet. (This is halfway between Maroochydore and Noosa.)
