The bombs aren’t important what makes fallout Fallout is the struggles to rebuild

The whole theme is how nobody wins in war. There can’t really be any rebuilding in south america (which is what you argue for because you live there) because there were no bombs. The interesting technology core to the series like fusion wouldn’t even take place in SA due to lack of american militarism.

Countries not Canada/USA were:

Not bombed during the great war Not in an arms race leading to development of fusion tech They have no power armor, mutants, or recognizable villains No reason to rebuild other than scarcity (excluding europe and middle east)

In an earlier comment you described south/latin america as possibly an NCR trade route. I believe FO4 source code has unused data for a mutant whale, implying the existence of mutated sea creatures. It would take several centuries for the NCR to build a nation large enough to have international trade.

Well, when you live in huts like cavemen and your population is very spread out, of course you’re going to be less impactful. Shrinking the population WOULD help, no matter how much you scream about eugenics and fascism. Gonna be downvoted for this, but it’s just my opinion at the end of the day. No need to get butthurt, keyboard warriors.

Looks amazing! I have to get one sometime, the screen quality is amazing!

Gameboy repair (i.imgur.com)

Absolute nightmare. Not just leaking batteries but several components had to be replaced on the front. Ridiculous amounts of contact cleaner in the card slot. Copper plate ground so corroded I could peel it off like wet toilet paper. Removed it and soldered all the contacts together. Bought for 5 bucks, only took about an hour...

This game gets really tough! 🫡 to anyone that can beat it, with a guide and two people it took nearly 6 hours. Probably my favorite game on the nes, it just feels so grandiose and huge.

Ok, that’s REALLY cool! I use an everdrive with the original hardware but maybe someone made a romhack. Either way, bosses hitless sounds like a real PITA like you said. Can’t imagine beating Gohma hitless lol

Huge jump between the original and later titles. This game really does feel huge and the dungeons might be better that BoTW. More secrets than later games and a ton of different areas. It feels super good to get acquainted with the map and actually figure out where you’re going without a guide. Combat is pretty good too, although the knockback is somewhat broken with certain enemies (looking at you, gibdo). Planning order of operations is a big one for me too (i.e “first I’ll get the heart piece, then stick up on bombs, then hit dungeon 5”) and makes the game a real challenge. Just use a guide for the later sections of the overworld. Getting to 5 is pretty much impossible without a hint. It’s worth picking back up again if you have the time.

Holy jeepers! 12 grand usd for a game! Never grew up around these but they’re the only games I emulate seeing how it’s 400usd for a aes everdrive and 1.2k for a console (in bad condition). The games really are beautiful though. Fatal fury has some of my favorite pixel art to date!

Lucky!

Showing off my setup (lemmy.world)

Here is where I am at. Live in an apartment so space is tight and needed everything to be able to move into the closet. I’ve got SNES, N64, Wii mini, Sega Genesis, PS2, a vcr, receiver and stereo speakers, Extron switcher, and playing them all on a Sony PVM14L5. The rack is from Amazon and most are hooked up via RGB.

Favorite flux?

I recently picked up a syringe of Chipquik SMD291 tack flux to play around with, I’m just getting into doing smd stuff… and I find myself using it for just about everything because it’s so easy to use, works a treat, and is fairly easy to clean up. What flux do you like to use? Do you have different ones for different...

Love no clean liquid flux. Just the no-name stuff, and I clean it with 99 ipa anyway. On an unrelated note, I will always be a Hakko shill. Just the absolute best soldering iron i can imagine- if you can afford it, BUY IT!

I find there are some retro titles that have been eclipsed by their sequels, what are some that hold up better than their later iterations in your opinion.

My title of choice would probably be Daggerfall because it's just so ambitious and truly offers an experience none of the other elder scrolls games offer. That being said it is kinda an example of a sequel eclipsing it's predecessors as well given it is more or less a straight improvement over Arena in every way.

Easily New Vegas and Interplay fallouts (excluding tactics ofc). Put an easy 150 into FO4 but New Vegas really isn’t overrated, and 1/2 are amazing with the sheer desolation and creepiness factor. Love those games, probably played NV a dozen times by now

God I need a Scart modded crt so bad but I'm so scared of breaking the trinitron (I've got the experience but I always second-guess myself and end up ruining it). Anyone have experience with the retroTINK rgb2comp?

solarknight,
@solarknight@lemmy.world avatar

oh yeah, I've got instructions for it, a BA-5 is pretty easy. But I'm terrified of messing it up because it’s the only trinitron in my area that's a reasonable price (300 for a kv-20fs120?!) and I'm a little out of my depth here. But I had no idea about BNC connectors, so thanks on that. Maybe I'll start on my cheapo sharp crt and work my way up. You seem super knowledgeable, and thanks for the help!

My search terms are typically “tube tv” or “old tv” but I live near a major city so most people know what they’re selling. I've done a few gamecube picoboots that are way harder but like I said I might try on my POS sharp tv!

Thanks for the quick and helpful replies, I hope other people learn things from this thread too!
