There's also the concept of informed risk, which realtes to informed consent, and this can be a big issue.
For example, if I ask a friend to come for a drive with me, they'll likely say "yes" on the assumption that the car is road safe and I have passed my driving test. But if I wait until we're already on the road to tell them that the fuel line sprays petrol into the footwell and the engine constantly misfires, then they agreed without understanding the full risks, and might have decided differently if they had all the info ahead of time.
I think any "reasonable person" would refuse to enter that sub if they were given a full understanding of the risks posed, and their likelihood.
This morning when I opened Infinity to check Reddit, I saw the announcement above: they're going subscription-only. Ironically enough, I couldn't scroll down to see the rest of the message including prices, if there were any. I also couldn't see if there was a button to close the message or start a paid subscription. I couldn't proceed to Reddit at all. My only option was to close the app completely. So I uninstalled it.
That's it for me using Reddit on mobile! Can't say I'll miss it much. But I added a LOT of content to Reddit that way, so it's their loss. Fuck you, spez!
I was willing to pay infinty a subscription in order to keep using reddit, but Lemmy is actually far better than I expected, so I'm just not going back to reddit now!
I saved up all my birthday + Xmas + lawn mowing money for this. I didn't care that I had to talk on it like a taco or take the battery out to change the game. The ngage was cool for its time.
I'm going cold turkey on Reddit for exactly this reason. I realised that if I allowed myself to use Reddit if I couldn't find the content I want elsewhere, then I'll never actually leave it.
Instead I'm trying to now use Lemmy to find the communities that I'm interested it, and to make the content that I'd like to see.
This is awesome! I used Skyline for a while to play 'Scott Pilgrim vs The World', so I'm really looking forward to seeing what Yuzu might allow me to do!

Playing the Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (SNES) on my MiyooMini whilst my wife surfs - a great way to spend an evening!
CEO Who Said Safety Is a “Waste” on Board Lost Submarine (futurism.com)
The CEO of the company whose Titanic-seeking submarine has been missing for nearly two days once said safety was a "pure waste."

"It's the content, stupid" - some #chaoticgood ways to encourage people to get off of Reddit and onto Kbin
Jotting some quick notes I've observed so far from running /m/scifi for a couple of weeks and getting to 3K subscribers:...
Yuzu on Android adds support for Mali GPUs (lemmy.world)
This is pretty big for people with Mali phones. Switch emulation on Android is looking more and more viable!
