I did something I literally never do today - I used a balm that doesn’t match my soap. I know most, if not all, of you do that regularly (or aftershave if not necessarily balm), but for me I get excited about having the scent that I shaved with linger throughout the day. But my Leviathan balm is almost gone, and I used up my Watchman soap long before my Watchman balm and I still have a decent amount left, so this seemed like a natural time to try it out. And I’m pleased to say I didn’t hate it! The two scents have kinda sorta similar themes and I can see myself doing it again sometime.

It’s been a while since I’ve used my scuttle, but I’ve been meaning to ever since diusccing them with @merikus a couple months ago. It’s pretty darn cold out today so the idea of warm lather sounded pretty enticing.
It was nice, but I never developed a good technique for building the lather in the bowl. Every couple of swirls the lather would be overflowing the edge of the bowl and I’d have to stop and push it back in. Is there something I’m doing wrong?
That makes sense, thanks. So maybe I don’t need to load as much soap?
I do generally use a stirring method. I haven’t watched any in a while, but the videos I’ve seen for bowl/scuttle lathering seem to show them stirring without having the same problem I have with the the lather overflowing.

I killed my tub of Watchman soap today. I actually should have called it after my last use but I thought I still had enough left for another shave, and today I ended up with one of the thinnest lathers I’ve ever used. Oh well, live and learn.

Rainy day shave means I’m using The Watchman. Unfortunately I’m just about done with this soap, there’s maybe one shave left. But on the plus side that means it’s time to buy more soap!

I’m for now sticking with my old school set up of the Jagger with a Silver Blue. (Technically an old school setup would be one of my vintages, but this is “my” old school setup as it’s how I started wetshaving.

Going back to when I first started wetshaving, this razor + blade combo was the first one that really clicked for me. Up until then I had only tried blades that didn’t work for, but with the Silver Blue it was my first time realizing that shaving could actually be pleasant. These days the EJ is not one of my favorites, but with the Silver Blue it almost feels like comfort food.

First shave of the new year (I’ve been sick and haven’t felt up to it), and unfortunately it didn’t go well. It felt like it was going well throughout the shave, but I somehow ended up with a few small cuts on my neck. This razor is more aggressive than what I usually use, so I guess it’s not that surprising, but still unexpected.
Final shave of 2023. It’s been a rollercoaster of a year (I won’t bore you with the details), here’s to a new year being freshly shaven. Cheers fellas.
And now to watch my football (NFL) team, Baltimore Ravens, for their final game of the 2023…

The wife and I tested postive for Covid the other day, and as such I haven’t shaved in a while. Made for a satisfying shave even though I couldn’t really enjoy the scent. (Not because I’ve lost my sense of smell, I’m just super stuffed up.) Anyway, I hope you all are enjoying the holidays!
