Biotechnology and continued investment in biomedical research is an important component of ensuring a healthy human society. And intellectual property continues to stand in the way of that as illustrated by the TB treatment situation.
If you’ve seen any of my previous posts here, you may have noticed that I enjoy woodworking. I’m also very sentimental, so I save our Christmas trees after we take them down, dry them, strip the branches, and keep the trunks for future projects. I think it’s nice to have that bit of story behind something you make....
I am in the camp we need both infrastructure investments and bike subsidies in the short term. I think people will start demanding more Bike infra after they experience an ebike. And for much of suburban America utility biking without electric assist is really difficult due to terrain, climate or distance.
I am simply shocked at how every major auto manufacturer is essentially giving them that advantage too. Pretty impressive how incapable they all truly are.
I feel this so much. I read this quote from my local newspaper today:
When completed, traffic engineers predict a morning rush hour that's expected to reduce current Boones Ferry Road to I-5 travel time from 6.5 minutes to 4 minutes.
While an exact starting date has yet to be set, construction will begin soon for the $2.7 million project.
$2.7MM of land widening to save… 180 seconds off of commutes.
Oil & gas companies (in Aus anyways) have been lobbying governments to throw money at developing this technology. Pointing towards these sites as success stories....
What resources and links should I consider adding in the sidebar about utility cycling? I am thinking advocacy organizations, gear recommendation guides, youtube channels, etc.
With more and more alternatives appearing to Lego which also increase in variety and even surpass at times Lego quality, why focus just on this company for a brick building community? I for example have been badly burned by Lego's handling of the Mindstorms brand and there are more compatibility broken product lines from Lego....
Why are you opposed to offbrand bricks? The way I look at it the patents are expired and the purpose of patents is to enable a short term monopoly to create a profit motive for innovation. But after the patents expire then the invention belongs to everyone to build upon.
I dislike 1:1 copies of Lego sets. But copying the bricks is fine with me- and actually a good thing long term I think.

Oh, you are opposed to offbrand bricks being discussed in the Lego community. Not just like opposed in general. I agree honestly. And I understand your position now :)
I'm car free so I've had to come up with some creative solutions to moving some big stuff around. Probably the toughest thing I've had to tow is my 12 ft sailboat. I modified my existing trailer to add a tag-along child bike trailer.
I am riding a Tern GSD S00 and have put about 100miles/mo on the bike in the last 18mo for errands and commutes to my 2 kids school.
I love the bike but the maintenance is quite a pain. In particular replacing brake pads is annoying due to all of the accessories. Also, the lock failed and a caliper exploded requiring a warranty replacement.
Cargo ebikes are awesome but it seems the hardware needs to be heavier duty to make maintenance less fussy.
