It's notable that almost every other Django book out there doesn't touch deployment at all. Makes me wonder if I should stop trying to cover it and just move it to a more advanced thing that is separate. Especially now that there isn't a great free option, it's a non-starter for many people apparently based on feedback I've gotten.
@wsvincent your efforts on both deployment and testing don't go unnoticed. I'm sure your inbox is full of readers coming up against challenges. There are almost certainly many, many other silently appreciative readers too 💚
@carlton digging this post up for a newbie question...because homebrew auto installs non-Python things, do you need to install anything outside of Python from python.org if you don't use Homebrew? Also, the fact that Homebrew exists at all (I assume to reduce complexity?) & how I'm struggling to find info on how to set up a mac without using Homebrew had me wondering: how complicated would forgoing Homebrew be for an average newbie?
@carlton Context: I use a 2013 MacBook Pro (macOS 11). I think the fact that Homebrew doesn't support it (and therefore I can't fully upgrade everything with the brew upgrade command) is messing some things up, and I will consider a new computer if I can't setup without Homebrew. This one works fine except for this though, so I'd rather not drop the money on it if possible. Any more info you have the time to share on the topic would be appreciated greatly
