i started on lemmy.ml but it's been down for a day or so, cant access anything I did over there, so I started over here too. I'm probably wrong but it seems, from what others have said (over the last few days I've been trying out this federation platform), an account's activity/comments are tied to the sql database on the server - so if the server goes poof, so does your account.

it looks sort of how I remember digg looking but its been quite some time and my memories are a bit hazy. it’s certainly prettier than lemmy or kbin is, but lemmy defaulted to dark mode, and white backgrounds are hard on my eyes, so… 4/10.

Toilet repairability

Our old cheap toilet you can't get parts for anymore (dual flush). I remember my dad fixing old singl-flush toilets with just standard parts from the hardware store. But these new dual-flush toilets are super proprietary. Are single-flush toilets more standardized to where I would be able to easily find parts? I am thinking yes,...

no one has any "rights" except those that the government provides.

if the federal government decides that abortion isn't something that it needs to legislate about, then it becomes a states issue. same thing with whatever flavor of the month you identify as

you're entitled to your own opinion - it's wrong, but that's ok

our society has had a lot of various rules in the past. for example, chinese/asians in general were banned from migrating to America after they built the western half of the cross continental railroad. or how all Japanese were forced into internment camps during WW2. or how we used to happily import millions of afticans as slave labor. or how we forced the "native" Americans (humanity is indigenous to africa and nowhere else) into reservations, where they languish to this day.

I could go on and on and on, but ultimately, your "rights" are only those that are provided by the government - and they can changed very quickly. educate yourself.

eh, a tattoo can be removed with lasers - bodily mutilation, not so much

yeah, looking back at it now that you mention it, the only names I really recognized in reddit were the famous/infamous ones, or the ones that were obnoxious enough on the subs I subscribed to. in reddit, over the 15 years I used it, I created a new profile every year or two - had to, I kept getting banned from top-level subs. a profile name generally meant nothing inasmuch as it was required to use the platform...

maybe related, but I've noticed that upvoting/downvoting has similar lag delays

lets be honest, reddit is a literal joke at this point

federal law supersedes state law, which in turn supersedes county/city law.

ICE is going to have a heyday

look at this guy, thinking up/down votes matter. there's no fake internet points on this platform.

it's a community, doofus. if it was an echo chamber you'd get banned, like how reddit works. you should return to that hive of scum and villainy tomorrow

tallwookie,

ah, I see - you mod a self proclaimed hate centric space. lol, that's sad.

you basically have to find the !community@domain string, then copy it and paste it back into your home instance search field & search for it, then navigate to it from your home instance to subscribe to it.

it's very cumbersome but it does work. perhaps things will change in the future, or maybe not.

tallwookie,

search for it like so from your home instance (fmhy), while you are logged in on your home instance - you wont be able to log into thegarden.land unless you have an account there.

my main instance is lemmy.world - subbed here earler today using that same process ;)

many species of conifer require fire to propagate - the high heat releases the seeds from their protective enclosure. this is why forest fires are beneficial to some forest environments
