Anyone else addicted to Balatro right now? (www.playbalatro.com)

I’m not usually a huge fan of rogue-likes, but I’ve enjoyed a few, like Hades. I bought Balatro last week and have been absolutely smashing it ever since then. I love the way the game works, each run being so different even within the same framework, and the feeling when your build starts to go off is so incredibly...

theangriestbird,

me me me! I started it with my partner, we now have 3 different profiles going - one for me, one for them, one for us together. I can’t get enough of it, the mystery of the jokers is so compelling and all the dings and boops and flames are so oddly satisfying.

Fun fact: the game actually isn’t based on Poker, but rather the Filipino card game Pusoy Dos, which is a variant of the Chinese card game Big Two.

Steam Deck Owners: What’s been your favorite game that you first discovered on Steam Deck and now you can’t seem to put down?

Looking for those games that you may have heard about but never tried until you got a Deck. Or old games on systems you never had that you’re trying for the first time. Or new AAA games that just released in the last year or two that you picked up for the first time specifically to play on Steam Deck and have kept you glued to...

theangriestbird,

just want to say, if you have the choice to buy either the Xbox One or the newer Xbox Series controllers, it’s worth it to go for the newer one. Some of the buttons (the bumpers in particular) are way better on the newer controller.

theangriestbird,

Just curious, did you get the Deck just for that? I think you can run all of those on like the Retroid Pocket, which is like 1/4 the price of the deck?

theangriestbird,

yep! i’ve got that Lunar Shift one, it looks pretty sick. Not like “i would pay extra money for this” sick, but you know.

theangriestbird,

ohhh gotcha gotcha. gotta love the versatility of the Deck!

Great, the Kendall Roy of Valve

US Supreme Court announces formal ethics code for justices (www.reuters.com)

The code contains sections codifying that justices should not allow outside relationships to influence their official conduct or judgment, placing restrictions on justices participating in fundraising and reiterating limits on the accepting of gifts. It also states that justices should not “to any substantial degree” use...

theangriestbird,

To me, it feels like this is just written confirmation that they functionally have no code of ethics. They’ve been dodging the question for months, so I guess this is progress?

theangriestbird,

I think you and I agree, we just phrased the same idea in two different ways

theangriestbird,

This is so beautiful. Thank you for sharing!

Just watched the Digital Foundry review, unprompted by this post. Sounds like it’s a dramatically better screen, and marginally better in every other feature. Better battery, better performance, cooler temps, lighter weight, better storage…this might be the time to jump on the Steam Deck train.

theangriestbird,

Depends. How techy are you? None of those games are officially supported on the Steam Deck, but Valve lets you dig around under the hood and install whatever you want. However, anything that isn’t on Steam and officially supported will require some work for you to get running. That said, you can play just about anything on the Deck if you’re willing to put in the time. The touchpads make the Deck very capable on traditionally kb/m games.

theangriestbird,

Then you should be good! As long as you’re prepared to do the work to make them run.
