tiredturtle,

Good call. I don’t know if the new information about the release from being jailed is fake news, here’s an older source

tiredturtle,

The Guardian is not allowed on this community as per rule 1

tiredturtle,

Yup. Surprised me as well. I’ve thought of it being an ok enough source, just apply normal media criticism. But Lemmy doesn’t have transparency on whose mod decision it was or how to report those which seem to be on false premises or accidentally… Maybe some day.

tiredturtle, (edited )

I usually just lurk and post only if I see a topic which doesn’t seem to be posted yet. Seems like eastern police state & oligarchy has been that lately, and I think it’s definitely something that is interesting from a communist point of view horrified by human rights abuse. I don’t know if they’re taboo topics or just happenstance that I saw two of these lately before they hit here.

tiredturtle,

So was Russia and it was supposed to be untouchable. Now they’re in a war economy and losing resources

tiredturtle,

Maybe it’s like a “takes one to know one” situation, as both the USA and China meddle in the Middle-East and Africa with an infantilizing attitude.

tiredturtle,

Isn’t it great when the bourgeoisie chat about how they control us as cattle

tiredturtle,

Very convenient. Maybe you’re a chosen one and nobody else can’t figure out that light flows in aether. Thanks!

tiredturtle,

Modded as misinfo, worth to check the modlog… There were no links to any fake news sites nor information commented, just a realization that apparently all reports of even different cases can’t possibly have any truth to them.

Trump’s lawsuits could be an allegory. There’s so many of them and similarly all of them have to be fake I guess. No fire where there’s smoke

tiredturtle,

You misunderstood. I’m taking your word as is.

Government propaganda is good to realize!

Let’s say we have a basket of apples. The world’s most powerful apples. And they all look rotten and diseased, we know the reasons which make them rotten, it’s peer reviewed and considered a fact.

So then we make a leap of faith. What if despite evvvvvvveeeerrrything, this one apple is actually pure and holy. And only a few know this for sure and they’re not letting anyone else know the proof.

That’s very wonderful but, kinda sketchy at the same time?

tiredturtle, (edited )

It’s not a metaphor relating to those. You can substitute the apple for anything you like, the fruit is not a relevant object. It just carries similar properties. They can be called ‘Notexistilandia’, ‘United Territories of Nowhereon’ or ‘Countrystan’. Whatever helps.

You’re very close with Chomsky and people not knowing!

What I mean is that the mystical prophecies of one true holy and pure — despite the evidence, like we’ve discussed, rely much on faith, instead of (and sometimes contrary) to knowledge. And general populations “knowledge”, fooled, propagandized is just that — much closer to faith.

More Chomsky:

I think irrational belief is a dangerous phenomenon, and I try to consciously avoid irrational belief. On the other hand, I certainly recognize that it’s a major phenomenon for people in general, and you can understand why it would be. It does, apparently, provide personal sustenance, but also bonds of association and solidarity and a means for expressing elements of one’s personality that are often very valuable elements. To many people it does that. In my view, there’s nothing wrong with that. My view could be wrong, of course, but my position is that we should not succumb to irrational belief.

Idealistic nationalist supremacy is just a form of religion.

tiredturtle,

Yea muricans are always a good example of the lot. Thanks for discussing and taking part in the philosophical pondering, it’s not usual here!

tiredturtle, (edited )

I’m sorry you see me as an enemy and act reactively. I see we the people as one and am not related to the image you need to attack.

Edit: and after all the compassion that horrible projection of a reply is what we see

tiredturtle,

The oligarchs really push the division agenda, but it’s only artificial and doesn’t stand inspection

tiredturtle, (edited )

Is this meant to be to some other thread? I don’t think anyone mentioned lynchings but yeah they lynch us, we know, I know. If you create a side against there, the side is the black lynching despicable settler overseer side.

tiredturtle,

Yea lol, every other day it’s that “collapse imminent” and every other time it’s “turning around and winning everything”

tiredturtle,

Global press really. It’s been fascist ever since everywhere

tiredturtle,

Yeah it’s true that even though the term West/western is so varying, it is difficult to include Russia in.

But the point of imperialism rising is valid, US might be losing grasp but Russia and China are grabbing what they can to oppress as well.

Worldnews .ml modding is on par with reddit's censorship

I know that lemmy’s moto is if you don’t like it here make your own, but for communities with big sub numbers and where current event discussions happens. banning controversial political opinions is not what I would have expected from the fediverse after having left corporate media, which could be excused for having to...

I’ve joined this instance because of the rules and the communist lean

No bigotry - including racism, sexism, ableism, homophobia, transphobia, or xenophobia. Code of Conduct.

Be respectful, especially when disagreeing. Everyone should feel welcome here.

However it’s clear that the worldnews modding rotten. Fascist/xenophobic/antisemite users have their posts alive while those who call them out get hidden or even banned.

As it is the main news community of the instance, I understand how it can be seen as an instance issue instead of user preference to use some smaller community.

tiredturtle,

Good ideas. Blocking actually only hides content from the user, it doesn’t lead to admin action.

American intelligence withheld information on Moscow terror attacks out of fear of exposing intelligence sources or methods (www.nytimes.com)

The adversarial relationship between Washington and Moscow prevented U.S. officials from sharing any information about the plot beyond what was necessary, out of fear Russian authorities might learn their intelligence sources or methods.

tiredturtle,

The Red Scare is a more like side goal because communism threatens oligarchies. The Soviet Union also had its hand in persecuting communists.

tiredturtle,

Tsar was gone by something like the purges in 30s

tiredturtle,

And during the prohibition, black market flourished. The business will always be there. The question is do you support organized crime or do you support taxing to cover harm reduction and safety for people (buying from non-criminal sources, tested product etc)

Currently your stance is to provide money for organized crime
