I am getting somewhere. Super-early times and nothing groundbreaking, but I don’t need a fancy animated auto-scrolling site.

Over the weekend, I played with Framer; it was all joy and fun, but upon reconsidering its pricing scheme, I decided to switch to Astro and redo my experiments. It’ll be more cost-effective, and I’ll learn more.

It’s good to keep up with coding skills.

@dordio Astro is incredible; it’s a fantastic and rewarding experience writing with it, and deployment via Vercel is flawless. I’ve built a couple of sites with it, and I can’t complain – but this time, I decided to give up on hacks and learn how it should be used correctly. I am slower, but I think I finally understand it :)

Regarding vancura.photos: I think I will redo it on this site. I need to trim down costs wherever possible. And photos don’t make me money (luckily).

Do you know the history of the ”Sosumi“ sound on macOS?

In the ’80s, Apple sound designer Jim Reekes created “Sosumi” during a trademark dispute with The Beatles’ label, Apple Corps. After adding audio to Macs, Apple Computer was sued for infringement, leading to the renaming of musically-named sounds. Reekes, frustrated, mocked the situation with “Sosumi” (“so sue me”), convincing lawyers it was a meaningless Japanese term. Sosumi is now a famed Mac system sound.

The new name for the chime in macOS Big Sur is ”Sonumi“; it replaced the original chime with a different sample. The version change from macOS 10.15 to macOS 11 is possibly why it’s named Sonumi, which sounds like “so new me.” The original name was kept in the first public version of the OS, but it was later changed to Sonumi in the System Preferences. The sound file, located at /System/Library/Sounds/, is still named Sosumi.aiff.

@lacertacz Často vzpomínám na tvou přednášku na WebExpu před lety (kde jsi na pódiu dostal ránu z mého laserového ukazovátka, za což se opět hluboce omlouvám). Mluvil jsi o spojovnících, uvozovkách vs. palcích apod., a že je to všechno v pravidlech pravopisu. Byla to skvělá řeč; já tě dodnes cituji, když na to téma narazíme v hospodě. Naše děti by mohly vyprávět, jak je s tím pravidelně otravuju :)

I'm seriously impressed with how DALL•E 3 can be used to create initial game assets that I can work on in Aseprite – it’s a huge time saver.

Unlike Midjourney, the standout feature is the conversation. With ChatGPT running in the background, it remembers the entire conversation and understands the context. You don't have to be a prompt expert to be able to generate meaningful results with DALL•E.

Wow, what an achievement! Adobe engineers have somehow managed to use low-resolution (yet bilinearly upscaled) keyboard shortcut labels in Photoshop.

@johjakob Sure, maybe some über-private API. But another question is WHY. Why would anyone want to mess with NSMenuItem so much that they need custom shortcut symbols? Photoshop has its own menu item (e.g., color background), but that's not a reason to develop a new shortcut renderer.

    WTF of the day: Adobe After Effects 2023 is crashing on macOS Sonoma for half of the world.     Just a thought here: why is it still impossible to import a PDF in Figma without a plugin, considering that Adobe now owns Figma? I’ve always assumed it was due to Adobe's ridiculous licenses.
