The problem with HDR video is not that iPhones record them or that social networks allow them. The problem is how iOS renders UI elements on top of HDR video when screen brightness is low.

@antons HDR content has many problems, especially photos (AVIF, JPEG-XL, or JPEGs with gainmaps). It’s incredible when it works (and when there’s no UI over or around), but it’s so bleeding edge. I had already lost hope.

@kccqzy @antons You can very effectively trim all more advanced JPEG chunks with any JPEG optimizer, like https://optimage.app, and I am sure basically any operation with currently stable ImageMagick trims them too.

Regarding the found Pentium 1 PC: the HDD light was turning on for a few seconds, but I was getting no video out, so having no POST card (already ordered it), I resorted to good old blind RAM removal, and hey, we got issues, but we got video!

@ozzelot Hmm, I always hoped the EnergyStar logo used poor man’s compression to encode the same elements only once. As you can see, the blank spaces are encoded multiple times.

@thkaspar This is so sweet. It reminds me of a time (~ 1995) when I spent a year thinking and then finally writing a transparency sprite draw method that used Animator Pro palette as a look-up-table. It literally took me a year to figure out, and I used it only once. Good times.
