Since I saw some of you enjoyed yesterday's photo of the ISS transiting our full moon, I thought I'd post some more details: This kind of transit is quite rare, but can be observed almost anywhere with some patience and planning. The ISS is about 400km above earth, and it circles around our planet 16 times a day - so it's faaaaast! The transit of the moon takes less than 1 second, so timing is everything. 📸 🛰️ 🌖 25 years ago the first module of the International Space Station was launched from Kazakhstan, and since then the ISS has hosted over 250 astronauts from more than 20 countries. Today’s partial lunar eclipse.

It was a cloudy affair, but I did have a small moment during the maximum eclipse where earth’s shadow was clearly visible at the bottom of our celestial companion.

The astronomy behind this and the incredible coincidence that we can see this from earth is humbling every time.
