I'm looking forward to 1993
Edit: some context:

  • This wasn't a proposal for a european rail network, it's a rough transfer of the London Underground map to Europe
  • It does show that the eurostar would go from a lot of UK stations, a plan that was sadly cancelled

What are some nice tracks that have everything hard panned either left or right? Particularly tracks beyond the early stereo era when crazy panning was the default. Orbital's input out is one example but there must be more examples.. People should do this more

My son is learning the electric guitar and needs to decide what kind of guitar player he is. Any recommendations for different guitar (metal?) music he can listen to, to help decide?

I blogged on "Luigi Russolo, Futurist and Fascist". Russolo is frequently referenced uncritically, even with an electroacoustic music prize awarded in his name, so a few things need to be said..

I often have problems with monitoring so got some Dunu Titan S in-ear monitors to try performing with. They came with foam tips that seem to isolate pretty well, I'm still a bit worried that I'm going to turn them up too loud though.. anyone have experience performing electronic music with IEMs?

My son wants to make his own electric guitar as a long term project. I think this might be too big a project to jump into. He's not even particularly keen on the idea of starting with a kit.. Any passing luthiers have advice about an easier step into this world?

Your annual reminder that music tech only defaults to 60 or 120 bpm to make the software easier to debug (as seconds align with beats), and that those bpms often sounds bad

I kind of feel that not enough is made of how the far-right has weaponised the internet and is totally undermining democracy. Like everyone knows it but is there much being done to oppose it? At this point I think there's every possibility that reform uk will win loads of seats in the next election here, and win the election after that, just by manipulating public opinion on otherwise uncontroversial issues like active travel and human rights.

"Future London" seem super dodgy, far-right andreessen-style techno-optimist/accelerationist bollocks.. and somehow hosting mainstream tech events. https://futurelondon.org/

I've been trying to get into Halt and Catch Fire, three episodes in to series one and not enjoying it at all. Is it likely to grow on me or should I give up?

This syllabus around it looks awesome, but just not finding anything for me in the actual episodes so far..

Next time someone calls themselves a 'futurist', maybe read the futurist manifesto they're alluding to..
"We will glorify war—the world’s only hygiene—militarism, patriotism, the destructive gesture of freedom-bringers, beautiful ideas worth dying for, and scorn for woman.
We will destroy the museums, libraries, academies of every kind, will fight moralism, feminism, every opportunistic or utilitarian cowardice."

Btw the techno-optimist manifesto quotes and references Marinetti who wrote both the futurist and fascist manifestos

So it turns out if you order something from ebay, the seller uses the worst courier ever (evri aka hermes) who deliver the parcel into your recycle bin without leaving a note, which then gets collected.. That's your fault and you don't get a refund?

Listening to a 3 hour long computer science podcast. Really interesting insights that get almost totally lost by looong rambling diversions into the nature of 'truth', 'beauty' and enlightenment that seem incredibly naive from an arts perspective. Computer science desperately needs transforming into an interdisciplinary field.

I wonder if there's a way to automatically fit SVG shapes to a page. Like here's a few SVG objects, fit as many as you can to the page while leaving a gap of 5mm. Ideally from the linux commandline..

Just can't understand otherwise reputable organisations and festivals etc are still using twitter as their main comms outlet when it's mainly a hard-right platform where ad revenue generated by their use goes towards huge payouts to folks like Donald Trump and Andrew Tate.

Relatedly say you had recorded a live set from the desk and from the room (camera mic), and wanted to mix the best of both worlds - clean sound with some room feel (including cheering at the end).. Any tips?

What exactly does Musk mean by the word 'white' when he says that Jewish people hate white people? It's some definition that doesn't include any Jewish people, and I don't see how you get there. Is this a normal distinction to make in the US?
With X being guided by this level of moronic antisemitism, how can anyone justify engaging with it at all?
