I haven’t had a lot of time to do much console gaming lately but I still would love to have a “go to” mobile game that I can whip out and progress a few levels or grind a few items or knock out a battle or match or two....
I was deep into Genshin for a bit, but fell off the wagon a few months ago. I download Star Rail, and dug it! But time got away from me and I haven't returned for a while. Maybe I'll dive back in!
Hoping to start a weekly thing where we can share the music we’ve been obsessing over for the last week with each other…and hopefully discover some cool new stuff along the way!...
Cavs is absolutely nuts on this. I’ve relistened several times and have tried to focus on the drums and I discover new bits each time where I just can’t wrap my brain around how he’s making it work and SOUND so good.
Not sure if this is isolated to me, but when sorting by Active, my Subscribed, Local and All feeds pretty much don't change for multiple days. I have to sort by New, Hot, etc. to get new content, but even those feeds stay somewhat constant....
I've noticed similar stuff. My home page / active feed stays the same pretty much all day. I'll check it the next day and see some new content refreshed; probably a symptom of kbin being relatively "new" in terms of an influx of activity, so it likely won't be cycling through content as much as, say, Reddit may have been.
Who knows? Still, I'm happy to be here and looking forward to seeing this place grow more!
I'm excited to be here too. I love the UI, and I'm still trying to figure out everything. Still trying to subscribe to the correct magazines to hone in my interests and still trying to interact with users as much as I can. I haven't seen my notifications working very well, though? I had a few replies to some comments earlier and wasn't ever made aware of that...
Also: is there an iOS app/beta for kbin.social yet? Or is the plan to just use the mobile site going forward?
For some reason, I could never get into RSS readers. I tried, but quickly felt overwhelmed and gave up. I've tried to get back into it over and over again, but always get just absolutely rocked by the amount of content that can be pulled in and get discouraged. It's also hard and daunting to think about getting into it at this point, now, because there's so much content out there that I don't even know where to start with adding RSS links of stuff I follow...because sometimes I don't even know where I get my stuff from (just from all over, Instagram, Twitter, Reddit, email newsletters, kbin, Google News, etc.)
Glad to know I'm not alone...because of this thread, i downloaded a couple RSS readers (Feedly and Inoreader)...but, yep, that overwhelming/daunting feeling is back!
This for sure. to me, it just seems like such a wave of news content...but a lot of what I enjoyed about Reddit/social media (including kbin) is the community aspect, allowing for more nuanced and popular stuff to be driven to the top of the feed (based on upvotes, retweets, user activity, clicks, or what have you). So the lack of that in RSS stuff really hinders me from fully adopting it.
Like for example, how someone thinks because you work in IT you can fix their TV, or how if you're into music you must be able to play any random instrument....
I’m a lawyer. If I had a dollar for every time I have heard “oh you’re a lawyer? You must have been good at arguing when you were a kid”…or that I must be “good at public speaking”.
It’s funny cause I do commercial real estate contracts and business law…I don’t ever go to court. Most of my day is spent staring at a computer and trying to figure out the best way to change three or four words in an obscure contract provision to best protect my client’s monetary interests. I don’t really ever argue in a professional setting, but I have learned how to think differently, how to see things from various perspectives and anticipate all sides of a negotiation and how I’d best respond.
I also can’t stand all the constant “hey can I ask you a legal question” from friends and family. Or friends and family sending me random contracts and asking me to “look it over for them”. It’s like they assume that just because they know me, I can do that for free, when I spend 10-12 hours a day billing large commercial clients for that same type of work.
That leads me to my next pet peeve: people in my life assuming that my “office job” is a simple nine to five. No. I represent clients all over the world so sometimes I am up at 4:30am to get on an international call at 5:00an. Sometimes I’m working late into the night to finalize a big land purchase contract or commercial office lease; sometimes doing that after putting in a full 9 hours at the office. I don’t get paid time off; I can work at my own pace, sure, and take “days off” here and there, but the work and business and the need for legal advice is constant and I have to catch up somehow, sometime whenever I take “time off”.
I know I’m in a privileged position so I feel kind of shitty about complaining about this, but it gets pretty old. I also recognize that I definitely need to figure out a better way to improve my work/life balance…because this won’t be super sustainable for much longer.
Good morning! :) Today I want to focus mainly on reviewing the pull requests you've submitted. There are many great things there that will help improve the kbin experience. That's amazing, thank you! I'm also in the final stages of sorting out the infrastructure-related formalities. Soon, the situation with the website's...
What’s your reasoning behind avoiding lemmy.ml? Just curious as I’ve been trying to find my landing place. I’ve enjoyed kbin but have found it a bit difficult to navigate, whereas lemmy.ml and beehaw.org both seem pretty straightforward.
Somehow I missed this song by CHVRCES! I saw a the Cure live last week and was blown away. Robert’s voice sounded incredible and the whole band was on point all night.
I’ve had a fun time over the last few months getting into metal music and its subgenres. I feel pretty basic in that my favorites remain Black Sabbath, Metallica and Iron Maiden. In my exploration I’ve learned that I tend to gravitate towards New Wave of Traditional Heavy Metal / British Heavy Metal stuff. In fact, I found this Spotify playlist called Dad Metal that is absolutely up my alley and I have been shuffling through it a ton.
Unfortunately, I still can’t handle much screaming or harsh vocals beyond what’s in some Mastodon, Opeth, and Gojira records. Even some Pantera gets to be too much for me. I know that I don’t have to like everything and everyone’s tastes are different, but I feel like by avoiding all harsh vocals and screaming, I will miss out on a huge subsection of stuff. So I’m looking to get some suggestions on music that might help ease me into it. Maybe some albums that don’t have harsh vocals on every single track? Or even vocals that are harsh but you’re still able to parse out what the lyrics are?
Additionally, I’m interested in discovering some more recent bands and music that will help me add to my already growing list of Metal that I like. Some of my favorite records that were released this year are:
And, obligatorily, Metallica’s new record has been getting a ton of playtime from me: 72 Seasons
So, I’m looking for some new music recommendations along a similar vein to what I already know I enjoy. I’m also hoping to get some introductory avenues into harsher stuff, to try and get into that
We recently got a switch and love it! I've been sent back to my childhood and get to enjoy playing with my kids now. We've been playing the following. Looking to see what else might be out there too....
Breath of the Wild will always hold a special place in my heart. It got me back into gaming. I haven't beat it yet! And I haven't touched tears of the kingdom either, because I want to finish BotW, eventually...
I also have poured hundreds of hours into Diablo III and Stardew Valley. I've really enjoyed Monster Hunter Rise, and have finally dipped my toes into the Persona series because of the Switch! I need to get back to it.
What mobile games are keeping your attention these days? (Preferably iOS compatible)

PetroDragonic Apocalypse; or, Dawn of Eternal Night: An Annhilation of Planet Earth and the Beginning of Merciless Damnation (open.spotify.com)
The new King Gizzard album is out!! What’s everyone’s thoughts?...
Currently into...
A little thread to talk about whatever you've been into lately (besides getting lost figuring out Lemmy, that is).
What do you all use for password management?
I'm using KeePass currently, since I don't really want to use anything publicly hosted. But I was curious to see what other people have been using!
Timeline not changing frequently?
Not sure if this is isolated to me, but when sorting by Active, my Subscribed, Local and All feeds pretty much don't change for multiple days. I have to sort by New, Hot, etc. to get new content, but even those feeds stay somewhat constant....

With the decline of twitter and reddit, it's time to take a look at RSS again if you haven't already. (voidfiles.github.io)
It's always good to be in control of your own content sources.
What's an innocent misconception about your hobby/profession that drives you up the wall?

What's a song that you like?
Whats a song (or more than one) that you like, or been listening to lately?
I'd love a community vibe check. What is everybody into? Subgenres/Bands/Favorite albums... let's talk about what we like.
Make a Metallica Playlist with no more than 4 songs from each album
Here's mine:...
What are your favorite Nintendo Switch games?

OC St. Anger is actually underrated.
Just gonna post that here to be the first one.
