Is there a way to convert a link to a post on another instance, into a Kbin link to the same post?
Basically, imagine someone links me to a post on Lemmy.ml or Beehaw.org, and I wish to reply to it but from my kbin.social account. What's the easiest way to do that?
@CodingAndCoffee Thanks for your response! I have now found out that Mastodon actually has this feature — you can paste a foreign URL in the search bar and it’ll show the post within your current instance. Maybe Kbin would benefit from such a feature, too.
Curious that you think it should be a browser extension instead of a feature?
@CodingAndCoffee Right, that makes sense. I was thinking specifically of the ability to paste a foreign URL into the search bar of my home instance. I think that should be a core feature.
@Timwi I am also struggling with this a bit. I have been trying to do this manually with mixed results. For example, I manually typed out https://kbin.social/m/technology@lemmy.world and it works. However, a smaller lemmy.world community 'Sooners' doesn't work (https://kbin.social/m/sooners@lemmy.world). Does the federation sync prioritize larger communities and /c/sooners just hasn't been sync'd yet?
I want to send a link to my less-than-informed-on-fediverse friend a link and was hoping to do it straight via kbin
@DefiantBarber The Sooners link seems to work now. However, for future reference, these links are case-sensitive, so if you want to link to /m/AskKbin, you really must capitalize that A and K.
