Dont forget to do your part by telling other people not on lemmy to try it. Its content has improved a lot so ask them to try it again if they didnt find communities they liked before. It will help the continued growth :)
I guess politics@kbin.social only allows the expression of Marxist sentiments. I have been banned from that magazine for allegedly promoting fascism. I did no such thing. I can only assume that the moderator of that magazine construes anything contrary to Marxist thought as fascist.
Khalid Kamau, mayor of the City of South Fulton, was charged with criminal trespassing and first-degree burglary. He was released the same day on $11,000 in surety bonds....
@melmc is rapidly becoming one of my favourites here on FA. We TOTALLY disagree on certain matters, but I can literally feel the patriotism oozing from his pores.
ActivityPub, the protocol that powers the fediverse (including Mastodon – same caveats as the first two times, will be used interchangeably, deal with it) is not private. It is not even semi-private. It is a completely public medium and absolutely nothing posted on it, including direct messages, can be seen as even remotely...
Of course you can have encrypted group chats on Signal, if you're not concerned about meta data. Or xmpp group chats with encryption if you want decentralization. You can keep your secret stuff secret and your public stuff public simply by using different apps.
@melmc Calling conservatives "dangerous" is the new campaign rhetoric. He did the right thing with Disney. DeSantis is dangerous to pedophiles, and I'll take that. This sounds like it was written by the SPLC.
Is it possible to block the display of comments/posts of a federated domain such as lemmi.world? Too much leftist nonsense is contaminating what could be a usable platform. If I wanted to read thoughtless leftist drivel I'd be on Reddit.
About 7.5 million “Baby Shark” bath toys are being recalled after multiple lacerations and puncture wounds were reported in children playing with them.
This blog post by Ploum, who was part of the original XMPP efforts long ago, describes how Google killed one great federated service, which shows why the Fediverse must not give Meta the chance
Social networks, even open source ones are only successful if lots of people use them. The more people who join and contribute to the community, the more other people will find things that interest them and then join. Any engagement with the network increases it’s reach and therefore influence. If that network is run by tankies I’d rather not add to its power.
