rememberence, to games in How are you enjoying Final Fantasy XVI?

I was gonna mention Skill-Up's review because, like you said, this post natches up beat for beat.

Op: you might want to check it out if you haven't, you'd probably feel vindicated.

I just wanted to comment that I both upvoted this and hate you.

rememberence, to RedditMigration in Fear of communication gone after switching to lemmy

I remember there was a specific thread in /r/darktide that I commented on and, while I will admit that the overall topic was potentially volatile given the community - or at least possibly against the collective hivemind of 'tide players - the negativity I got in that thread continually baffled me. I'd attempt to explain and re-explain over and over again and every time it was met with this..."wall" of almost.../hatred/ that I just couldn't wrap my mind around.

One guy I swear felt like he was legitimately getting off on the hatred he was spewing - to the extent that a whole other poster commented on how messed up his responses were.

I eventually /think/ I figured out people were latching on to like a single thing I'd said in my multiple paragraphs of responses but...yeah. It was like people were only looking for that one little bone they could hang on to to be as negative and visceral as possible. It legit took me aback. And I'm only slowly beginning to realize I /don't/ feel that over here.

rememberence, to RedditMigration in What do you think of subreddits protesting with rule changes (e.g., only allowing John Oliver)?

I don't expect it to have much of an impact on Reddit/u/spez's decision but it /does/ help show Reddit's thought process/response patterns as they take more and more draconian measures to try to "bring the subreddits under control."

I'm *half expecting - and would be amused by - them forcibly opening a subreddit and then "demanding" that "everyone go back to posting normal memes" - like the collective mob/reddit's population is beholden to their whims.

Hopefully, as each decision continues to ripple out, more and more people discover alternatives like kbin. I've been working hard to avoid reddit as much as possible but I'm getting more and more the desire to reach out to the mods of the subreddits I miss and ask them to move over here.

rememberence, to RedditMigration in What will you do if reddit undoes API changes?

I don't want to go back. I miss my subreddit - hell let's be honest, I miss /Reddit/ - but... Seeing how spez has acted and treated... /everyone/...

Like... We used the site, we provided the content, and the conversations, and the knowledge, the info, the jokes, the memes... That was all us. And it's like... I dunno he wants to eat his cake and have it to. He wants us there both for the content we provide as well as to monetize us and in a way I get it but it's like... ... When reddit was just the background... "the background" you didn't really think about it so much, you know? But it's like when Elon took over Twitter suddenly it's not just "Twitter" in the background it's now "Elon musks Twitter" and it's front and center and sleezy and scuzzy and you just want to not be a part of it anymore.

That feels like reddit now. Like how spez has been acting just makes it all feel dirty and horrible.

And I /miss/ reddit, I miss my subreddits. I miss googling any random idea and aphending reddit to the end of it and not even thinking about if it would show up on there because you just knew it would. Like it wasn't even a question... And I /miss/ that. So much. ... But it's like... /tainted/ now. I hate seeing reddit results from Google searches now.

And learning about how federation works reminds me of reading shadow run back in the day and how the matrix worked there with little nodes of info all talking to each other. In a way, then, the fediverse, to /me/, feels like the future...

So I'm willing to stay here and wait for it to grow and comment a little more than I ever did on reddit. Because I don't want to go back. And I don't think we should.

rememberence, to nostupidquestions in Why does it feel like we're at a point where every social media + other digital media are making shitty decisions and falling apart?

I honestly feel like - and this is just my thought, no data to back it up - all the major companies or sites felt like they were the only ones around, there was nothing to replace them, so they could make whatever decisions they wanted to make.

Like when we all left Digg for Reddit - Reddit was already a thing so it was a relatively "painless" switch. With this one it's like... Musk took over twitter and I sort of heard about the fediverse but I'm personally waiting for Hive to get a desktop - but once Reddit started doing it's thing it was like "yeah I really need to move now" and kbin had a much better landing page than any of the other fediverse things I'd stumbled upon which really helped with the onboarding... And it's been nice watching it grow.

But yeah previous to this it was like...there was nothing else available so why did they have to care about what they did if we were "stuck" there with the decisions they were making anyway.

lol...and yet here I am on kbin so - yeah looks like that plan (assuming it's at all correct) didn't pan out entirely like they were hoping.

rememberence, to StarCitizen in Alien week is starting tomorrow (15th). Hopefully we will see some cool stuff.

I'm waiting for the Railen above just about everything else. That and Pyro.

rememberence, to redlettermedia in Best of the Worst: Wheel of the Worst #25

lol, there just needs to be a post here to start -s o why not wheel of the worst? (I still need to get around to watching this one)

-- it feels better to have what used to be my reddit tabs open with the fediverse, even if they're mostly empty at the moment
