Just had a lovely meeting with my fellow moderation team members for our instance, and I just wanna say that if you are interested in helping run the instance you "live" on, I'd encourage you to get in touch with those folks and ask if there's anything they need.

This space means so much to me, and it's a wonderful feeling to go from enjoying it to contributing some small part to keeping it going. And it's so great to connect with other folks who feel the same, too.

Backlog of Cal-in-his-Bean-box photos, and one of him asleep on the pillow Jupiter crocheted, which does indeed spell FUCK across the front. They made another one that says BITCH. I was overwhelmed with pride when they made them, because they’d just started crocheting and they went from “hey I can make a Granny square” to “maybe I crochet this sweater I saw on Pinterest” in a couple months. So I said, “These are amazing! We have to put them on the couch!” And Jupiter laughed and said okay.

Orange cat asleep in a cardboard box, eyes pressed closed, head resting on the corner.
Orange cat curled up on a green crocheted pillow on a couch, with "FUCK" spelled in baubles on the front. He's not quite asleep but he's waiting for me to stop taking photos so he can get back to it.

Sitting at my desk just now tidying up and outside I see a woman runner, totally decked out, Air Pods, Nikes, fancy long distance running vest, stop in mid stride and suddenly look down, then look around, then down again. I’m thinking is she okay? Did she hurt her leg or something? I start to stand up as she basically collapses to the sidewalk on her knees, and I realize she’s TAKING A PHOTO OF A SNAIL.

I mean I don’t know her but she is clearly a quality individual with excellent priorities.

BIKE RIDE! :D Glorious! Easy 7 miles on my electric bike. Hung out at one end of the park for awhile, saw good things: A very fit, very nervous woman (in her 50’s?), waiting for someone - he showed up! A talking-a-mile-a-minute guy, obviously bonkers for her, they set out down a path, nearly holding hands (I bet they are by the end). A little boy learning to ride his bike, awww! Gaggle of teens walking by, speaking rapid Spanish, laughing SO hard. A bee rolling around in a flower. Many dogs! :)

Vertical metal support of a guard rail over the river, someone has spray-painted white strawberries on it, three, stacked.
Yellow flower with a bright orange center, there's a bee rolling around in the middle.
A blue bike on a cement bridge overlooking a river that has the I5 bridge going over it in the distance. Blue skies, whispy clouds.

Also I don't see a lot of conversations on here around somatic work for trauma and nervous system healing, but FYI if anyone's interested, I stopped the ride three times to sit with my bod and just listen to it. If you've been detached from your body because of anxiety/trauma, this can be really helpful. It's taken me a long time to sort of dial in my practice but it's working really well now. Should I write about this more often? Can't tell if anyone else is into this stuff.

Greg and I are at the park, I’m laying in the grass (see selfie) with my hat over my face, legs baking in the hot sun. Two kids just started playing a game involving “zaps” and “took 5 points of damage,” and I’m smiling at their conversation when I hear the dad, still unpacking the car, yell, “Hey! Boys? Can you stand away from the only two people around? Maybe try not to hit them with that stick you’re swinging with impunity?” Laughing so hard I had to sit up.

I'm putting together a collection of women-and-the sea songs, and there is an Ingrid Michaelson song I love called Far Away I can't find. The album version is rubbish (no offense Ingrid lol), but there's a really beautiful live version on Apple Music and I no longer have access to that. I think maybe it's from an Apple event but I'm not sure? Is there anyway to BUY Apple-owned music? When I do a search on Apple Music it just shows me the album recording.

A laudable contribution to the bear/man discussion. I loved it.

“There is nothing wrong with men. Men are lovable people with the same capacity for empathy, agency, and growth as any other human on the gender spectrum. But when men are socialized to identify their humanness as masculinity and to associate masculinity with power, we get some real problems. These are the problems of patriarchy.”

One of my favorite movies of all time, and I can’t believe I didn’t know there was a CONSTELLATION IN THE POPCORN!

The bathroom mirror shot is amazing and I’ve always wondered how they filmed that. I also didn’t realize that they mirrored the stairs. How many times have I watched that and not noticed? It’s like the blue rag in The Abyss.

Alt text question!

Should alt text be a complete sentence, like a period at the end? Like exactly the way you'd normally write it on a page? I notice some folks make it very short, no period at end. Wondering if I'm doing it right.

Also a lot of times I have quote marks in alt text and it breaks the photo on the blog page (though it doesn't break anything Mastodon), so I'm working on avoiding that.

Greg shared this with me and I love it, it's helpful! We had one long beach convo about my feeling so vulnerable to messages of doom (Greg is much less so). Mastodon used to help, but after the big migration a year and a half ago, it's doom 24/7 here, too. I'm trying to just check less and mute folks who don't CW doom, and it's helping, but I need to actively cultivate a sense of hope in myself about the world.

I can't wait to see this! I watched Reading Rainbow as a kid, and then later would watch it as a teen after my high school classes, just to relax and feel good about the world. I know a lot of folks feel lovely and warm about this show, I'm so happy they're doing a documentary on it.

We were discussing the differences between sandy and rocky beaches and I took this photo of the very pretty pebbly and shell-y sand at the base of the rocks we were sitting on, and then cracked up.

Greg: What’s so funny

Me: It looks like you’ve just been murdered and I’m focused on the gravel

Greg: <laughs> “Will THESE rocks be enough to cover my husband’s lifeless corpse?”

Me: “Hmmmm…I don’t know, the wind could blow these right off the body…”

Okay I want to go on a road trip with somebody where all we do is find cute little towns and then scope out their indie bookstores. When the car is half full of books is when we know it’s time to loop back around home. Also there should be a good deal of finding the best cafes, too.

Happy Mother’s Day to moms, weird Aunts, and other caregivers, and massive loads of love and empathy for folks for whom this is a difficult holiday. 💜 My day has been quiet and nice, chatted with both kids earlier, and Jupes sent me this illustration of Finnegan based on a photo I took. I love it! I’ve never had a pet who had this much fan art - drawn by me, Jupes, a friend, another friend, and Greg had a joke oil painting of him made. Quite the furry celeb. :)

Well, Framer may not be the first first for some people because it lacks RSS. But Squarespace doesn’t allow code that automatically stylizes swift.

I could use some third part RSS tool to generate it, but that seems like more work.

Ideally Id like to find something that does all in one.

Allows blockquotes (how can a blog now allow block quotes?!?!?)
A resume
A portfolio
And a blog with swift code blocks in it.

So far Framer is easiest.

I stayed up until 2:30 am binging a show. Oops. Haven't done that in awhile.

@MsHearthWitch I love that you can make your own booklets, too, that just scratches an itch I've had with planners for ages. I like making watercolor booklets.
