I don’t really wear my 6244 often but today was kind of the right day. Lots of walking around in touristy places so I wanted something small, lightweight. Pretty much unnoticeable and inconspicuous.

I brought back some stuff from that event. I wonder who my bias is. 🤔😂

I have been alternating between these 2 lately. Still wearing the more obviously but having something very lightweight is a nice change of pace.

After a whole week of wearing only the SBGJ201 I thought it was time for a change. I went back to the trusty Datejust as I need all the good luck I can today 🙏

debuts with Virtual Angel. This MV definitely needs an epilepsy warning. Happy with the song. Unhappy with the poor video editing choice. Whoever approved a video editing style guaranteed to trigger an episode to some poor lads needs to be slapped and fired. https://youtu.be/EqUP26j4XWU?si=a0vSMAd8mQ7H_YYA

Epilepsy issue is so bad that Modhaus actually ended up publishing a safer version. There are still flashing scenes but it is much more manageable than the original version. https://youtu.be/qCodzDc61oc?si=d4WoqWrVqwqK9TlV

As for the album itself, it is VERY VERY GOOD. A worthy successor to XX. The sound is very much in the same lineage. I am still debating which track my favorite is but it is basically a tie between “Sparkle” and “Distress” https://youtu.be/7gP0Tk3-fJU?si=Xh8Fx62jtjnzSCub

With ’s conviction the US has proven that their legal system is somewhat working in some capacity. The jury is still out on whether their carceral system, their Supreme Court, their political system and their education system do though. Small steps I guess 😅

Yves’ Loop is out. Unsurprisingly the song is very bouncy and it’s a whole lot of dance. https://youtu.be/ljYSblGWWRc?si=Qebxph4rHFj3mVyM

Having a Spring Drive one and a Quartz one in my collection already, it is only natural that my 3rd would be a Hi-beats automatic. When I saw the radial snowy dial, the 44GS case and the blue GMT hand, I knew that the SBGJ201 aka “Mt Iwate” was the one. It’s not the first watch that can handle timezones in my collection but definitely the first regular GMT.

I have been wearing the SBGJ201 non-stop in the last 5 days. A few things I have noticed:

  • I have yet to wind it again. Rotor seems very efficient despite my low daily activity.
  • it’s definitely the heaviest and the thickest case out of the 3 GS I own. Stainless steel and GMT complication are likely the reasons.
  • Mt Iwate is probably my favorite dial out of the 3 . I still like the Snowflake’s though and nothing is quite like Spring Drive and titanium.

My 3rd is secured. I had been looking for one for weeks and stumbled upon an opportunity to get one that meets literally everything I wanted. l will post about it later but if you know that I already own a Spring Drive one and a Quartz one, you can guess where this is going 😉

With how sunny it is right now, it is not too hard to get a lum shot of my Seiko SNK809. Field watches are so easy to read 👌

I've recently gotten into and at the same time. They do tend to be related, but I never expected interest in one to create interest in another.

All that to say, all the cool gears in mechanical watches are awesome. But, I also got a Casio G-SHOCK that syncs with the radio broadcast of the atomic clock every night. Its really fascinating technology, at least to me!

@johnpeden Seiko and Citizen also make those kind of watches in their solar/eco-drive lineups with the “radio-controlled” moniker.

I went out to look at watches, and I saw some beautiful Tissot PRXs. They are pretty but far from perfect. Especially the quartz ones seem hit and miss (miss really) when it comes to hitting the markers.

Then I saw some Citizen Tsuyosas in various colours, which are also very beautiful! I was impressed.

Then I saw the Grand Seiko range next to Rolex and Omega and GOOD GOD! How can humans manufacture something as perfect as a Grand Seiko. 🤯

ppn,
@ppn@mastodon.online avatar

@gpowerf Grand Seiko has an incredible history and makes unique watches on par with the greatest no doubt about it: opinionated japanese design that strongly contrasts with what the Swiss brands offer, top-notch finition and a few tricks literally no one else can do. It’s also very easy to be lost in their giant lineup of collections and models 😅

Now that the weather is getting sunny again here, I can show a little something about my Datejust. People tend to think that the cream Buckley dial is just a flat colored dial and they are not wrong. Most of the time it does look uniform. But as soon as you put it in the sunlight, you’ll notice that it has some texture/graininess in the way it reflects strong light. I don’t think I’ll ever get bored of that.

Wrist shot in strong sunny lighting conditions. The dial shows some graininess due to how the dial reflects the light.
