I went out to look at watches, and I saw some beautiful Tissot PRXs. They are pretty but far from perfect. Especially the quartz ones seem hit and miss (miss really) when it comes to hitting the markers.
Then I saw some Citizen Tsuyosas in various colours, which are also very beautiful! I was impressed.
Then I saw the Grand Seiko range next to Rolex and Omega and GOOD GOD! How can humans manufacture something as perfect as a Grand Seiko. 🤯 #horology#watchesofmastodon
Oh, dang. Behrens made a sick lightweight and curvy wristwatch. Even if it was free I couldn't wear it but as a machine-minded person I love the stuffing out of the engineering, manufacturing, and aesthetics. #horology#machinist https://youtu.be/GOqzjrPnWao
I've fallen down the rabbit hole of clock movements and it's good fun! My favorite advancement so far is the modern spring drive that merges satisfying mechanical features with a clever bit of silicon and quartz to keep more accurate time without a chemical battery. https://youtu.be/jVoRoK1u3Dg
I don't wear a wristwatch for reasons of sensory processing and demand anxiety but I'm tinkering with a wristwrap design that might work. It's fabric and solid state electronics, though, so sadly no neat springs and wheels. #horology
TIL that an org, the COSC, that certifies mechanical watch movements for timekeeping accuracy accepts -4 to +6 seconds of deviation per day.
A ten second spread each day!
I like machines as much as anybody and my life wouldn't be changed by that error but knowing that my timepiece has that much slop in it would give me cold chills.
I guess I'll stick with devices set with NTP. #horology#obsession
This is The Bull, a crazy little bullhead chronograph made by tiny Dutch microbrand #Stuckx back in 2015 or thereabouts. Last week I took mine a local jeweler to get a new battery put in... and they couldn't, because none of their tools could get the caseback off.
This week, I'll be taking it back to them, with a 3D printed tool sized exactly correctly to unscrew that dodecagonal caseback. I hope they're as excited about this as I am.
⌚📷 The Casio WQV-1 Wrist Camera from 2000 is the first digital camera built into a wristwatch. It can store 100 black and white photos with a resolution of 120x120 pixels.
😎 It's not hard to imagine how it sparked the interest of gadget enthusiasts back then. Thanks to a kind donation to the museum, we hope that, like with the recent Gameboy Camera, we'll soon be admiring its photos as well.

⏰ You probably already knew that in the 19th century, knocker-uppers were hired to wake up workers in towns and cities in Britain. But did you know there were knocker-uppers to wake up the knocker-uppers? #clock#alarm#time#horology#history#podcast#TimeKeeping#work
Picked this up today at an antiques shop, just because I thought it was interesting - an old mechanical watch movement, fascinating! There's no crown or winding stem, but the balance wheel and spring are still present, and if you swing the balance, you can see the escape wheel turning. Only after coming home did it occur to me it might be something nice to turn into a piece of jewellery, so I'm talking to someone about doing that!
Pretty cool vintage pieces. I know a lot of hype is around new watches, but it’s cool to see what creative ideas were done in the past and how we have evolved to today.

Their content is pretty good. Their format is like a grand tour episode but with watches. Does anyone else watch them?
