Tomorrow I will be driving a BYD Seal and the new Tesla Model 3 Long Range.

Reason is that I have to order an new car (first world problem, I know).

However, to streamline my decision process, I have set up a Google doc to tick off my checks. If you are interested, pls take a look:

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Td0n9taFId3qmHSsYaK27PEXcHkbw0W9GWdEo34PyG8/edit?usp=sharing

If you want to contribute with other EVs (e.g. VW ID7), please let me know, I will then give you write access to the sheet.

BYD Seal

Design? Acceptable outerior design. Poser-blinker-lights ()! Interior design was obviously done when design department was on vacation.

Digital? Total fail. Center display is an Android phone on steroids. Crapy design and menus.
Driving? Feels like on a swing boat. Recuperation? No one-pedal-drive. Car behaves like a car with automatic gearbox.

Finishing? Excellent!

Conclusion: Nice car for elderly people transitioning from a combustion engine.

@bodomenke Klingt ja fast so, als würde es wieder ein Tesla werden 😀.

@bodomenke@hessen.social avatar

@BlueTurtleAI Ja, ziemlich sicher.

bodomenke,
@bodomenke@hessen.social avatar

@bodomenke Würde mich genauer interessieren, was du unter „Digitale Beschränktheit” verstehst.

@BlueTurtleAI Schau mal in das Google-Dokument, das ich im Ausgangs-Post geteilt habe in die Sektion „Digital“…
Da sind die Details…

@bodomenke Union bashing policy as a criteria?

@bodomenke

  1. change "asshole" to "white supremacist"
  2. Add item: "Will I look like a Nazi?"

@bodomenke VW's CEO, Blume, replaced Deiss. Deiss was a good guy and really understood EVs, and really pushed to adapt the country for the future, which ticked off the old guard. Hence, Blume, who immediately started pushing for more combustion cars :Þ

I don't know much about BYD's Wang Chuanfu.

Location is a tricky. Any major automaker has factories all over the planet. But if you're in Germany, your car won't come from any arbitrary factory. For example, Tesla's would come from Grünheide.

bodomenke,
@bodomenke@hessen.social avatar

@nafnlaus All true. But TM3 will not come from Grünheide. They build only Model Y there currently…

nafnlaus,
@nafnlaus@fosstodon.org avatar

@bodomenke True. 3s in Europe are currently shipped from Shanghai. So there's a difference between models.

ID.7 is made in Emdem, Germany.

Seal is made in a couple places in China.

bodomenke,
@bodomenke@hessen.social avatar

@nafnlaus Yeah. I am really interesting in the Seal tomorrow. I am a bit afraid of that they are lacking on the digital end. Tesla is there really good - all the crap with autonomous drivíng aside.

nafnlaus,
@nafnlaus@fosstodon.org avatar

@bodomenke Yeah, I've driven a Tesla for nearly four years (just had my first inspection, no problems). The vehicle's been great. But the autonomy is hype. Autopilot is just an ADAS. A good ADAS, but still just an assist. Automakers will hit full autonomy some day, but it's not happening any time soon.

If you can be bothered, tag me once you've test driven them all: it'd be nice to know how the current offerings compare, as I haven't been on the market in a good while. :)

@nafnlaus I am driving the TM3 Perf. since nearly four years. Same experience. Really great car. I would not give it back, if leasing would not end.
But I am afraid that I will have only the chance to drive the Seal and the 3LR tomorrow. I have to take a decision within next two to three weeks. And I do neither assume getting the chance to drive the ID7 during that time, neither the new TM3 Perf. since it’s not on the market yet. :-(

PS: But I will update the sheet with BYD & LR
