OC Welcome to /m/chat!

Hello all! I've decided to start this community in order to create a space on kbin where people can chat about things they might not feel fit anywhere else. Discussion here can include topics that do fit elsewhere, however. The main goal of chat is to create a general social space for people to freely and safely communicate about their lives, interests and everything else naturally.

I want to do my best to promote an open community that is welcoming and generates quality conversations. I don't like to have to spell it out but bigotry is not welcome here. Please don't be a jerk and remember the human. If that all sounds good to you, welcome to what I hope to be a nice community here on kbin and have fun!

How's this any different from m/random? Do you not know duplication is the enemy of the internet discussion? why would you create something with overlapping functionality with something else that exists?

A federated service like kbin/lemmy is the epitome of duplication. If this is the case, then all federated content is doomed to fail.

And m/random is a lot of memes, articles and other content that doesn't generate conversation, while m/chat will focus on generating quality conversation.

I guess by definition, /m/random can have memes and pics, here can be topic/chat focused. So maybe a rule all threads needs to be in the form as a question to the community?

We already have m/askkbin for questions. I imagine this would end up similar to r/casualconversation over in the dark place.

Good idea. Many magazines have been created, but tons are mostly empty at the moment. If any topic becomes prevalent on this magazine, people can go over to a dedicated one and know there will be a community

Can someone put a noob out of their misery and tell me what I'm doing wrong?

On kbin.social, I've commented on a few threads from other instances and while my comments show up on my end, if I go to e.g. beehaw.org and find the same post, it usually has a bunch more comments but my comments aren't there.

I had the reverse. The comments on my post showed up about a day later so maybe yours will as well

Welcome and hello! Definitely agreed, It's very encouraging to see the activity increasing here. I know quite a few people have expressed that they are unhappy with Reddit right now. I hope they stick around for a while so we can carve out a better community here.
