OC What are some hobbies you have that carry you through the day/week? Feel free to share them here!

I absolutely 100% look forward to my hobbies every day of the week. I picked up some new ones over the past two years and they have been an immeasurable asset to my sanity and happiness over the past two years. The first being that I'm picking up, and practicing guitar again. I have a starter setup still and that is ample for my skill level for sure. The guitar is a Fender Squier Affinity Telecaster Deluxe with a Fender Frontman 10G amplifier. Every evening I practice for an hour or two and seeing the improvement over time has really instilled a sense of accomplishment in my life that hadn't really been there before. Also, it's just plain fun to churn out a tune that I thought I'd never be able to play just weeks prior.

The second hobby unfortunately lacks the aspect of self improvement, but I still enjoy it quite a bit. Late last year I purchased a Sony PS-LX310BT Belt Drive Turntable along with a pair of Edifier R1850DB Active Bookshelf Speakers- so you can see where this is going and why my wallet is being emptied. The setup itself isn't nearly the most expensive but the hobby of collecting vinyl records is quite expensive in 2023. Still though, I enjoy supporting the musicians that I listen to on the regular and there's quite a bit of satisfaction in scoring a limited run on a pre-order while doing that. I plan to stay active over at m/vinyl, sharing my pickups over time. I don't think it's for everyone (after all, there are more convenient ways to enjoy music), but I definitely enjoy listening to my setup. I find it therapeutic to take care of the collection, clean them and even flip the records when it's time.

If you haven't seen a magazine created for a hobby of yours yet, think about maybe starting one and contributing to it if you're open to that.

I do have more hobbies that I participate in that I could go on about, but I'll try not to create a wall of text here. I am definitely curious about the community here and the interests we all have. Are there any hobbies you have that you're fairly passionate about? What are they and how often do you dabble in them?

Programming and Art have been my go-tos for a long time.

I have a very ad-hoc method of doing things and splitting my time is the only way to utilize my energy. Like my head hurts after programming for a few days, so I draw nonsense or cute stuff.

Lately I have been taking up mechanical stuff and trying to fix a junker car I bought, it's a nightmare, but I'm starting to understand it a little bit.

Some other hobbies I dabble in a lot but don't really have a lot of experience or skills are

  • Making bags and sewing
  • Playing the keyboard
  • Learning DAWs
  • Making synths from scratch (It's hard)

I literally would not have a life without hobbies and new things. I am so into productivity that I kinda lost interest in gaming and movies and other such forms of entertainment. It's not a great position to be in but it helps distract me from the crap in life, y'know?

I also have this ad-hoc thing, it's a gift and a curse.
On the one hand it leads to having more hobbies and spreading out your interests, on the other hand it's harder to dive in very deep on some hobby.

Overall I think it's been beneficial, I gain something from every hobby I go through and the memory is always there if I want to return to it, even if it doesn't feel like it at first.

Margo-goodlife,

My main hobby over the last 10 years was spending several hours a day on a certain website that I now refuse to give attention to since a few days ago. I learnt lots but didn't do much outside of the site.

In between perma-scrolling reddit I like to take cutting of any plant to see if it will strike into a new plant. This means I have a ridiculous number of tiny plants all over the place in various states of trauma at being cleaved from its mother.

msmidlofty,

I do a lot of fiber crafts (weaving in particular), like taking photos (but I'm definitely an amateur), and enjoy travel.

I translate old German folk tales into English. I also play tabletop role-playing games (currently running a Scion campaign), and bicycle around the countryside.

I also play guitar and bass. Also keyboard. Sometimes I make music, sometimes I just mess around.
And also my cars keep me busy.

I’m a Dungeons and Dragons junkie :-P, I play atleast once a week, I 3d print miniatures to then prime paint and varnish.
Between playing video games Ill tinker with current character builds, create new characters or just look at books I will buy and read

metaStatic,

I have too many hobbies.

and I can never stay focused.

So I put them all in a list and rolled some dice and this year I'm focusing on Warhammer40k which is such a massive cop out because of all the different aspects that make up the hobby.

and because I'm actually terrible I'm using it as an excuse to buy more camera equipment. I figure if I can make youtube videos of me painting I can make this very expensive hobby a tax write off ... oh oh and I could get a 3D printer to print models to paint and .... and .... and ....

I have too many hobbies.

I struggled with "too many hobbies" for a long time but at a certain point I just accepted the chaos. Being a generalist and knowing bits of everything is actually pretty useful. The real struggle is organizing all the crap you accumulate, which if anyone has an answer to, let me know

3d printers are great but are also a pain in the ass, just warning you. I only have bits of experience with filament printers though. Maybe resin printers are less painful? Resin printers seem to be great for miniatures and figures, which makes me wanna get one now.... oh no

Krostudio,

I think I have too many hobbies and not enough time. Unfortunately I keep picking up new ones haha. Had a health scare last year which ment I had to drop some of the more physical ones like jiu jitsu and power lifting. A couple of months ago I started fly fishing which I thought I'd kind of hate but it's become something that I think about constantly and am enjoying more than anything I've tried in the last 10 years. I started making my own flies which are shit but I love the process. I spend hours wrapping thread around tiny hooks I can barely see, knowing that they more than likely are too badly made to fool even the blindest of trout. I'd love a magazine for flyfishing here but I don't think I'd have the knowledge to carry it.
