Like many others, fleeing the flaming chaos of reddit, hoping that there will emerge an organic and engaging community here. Much as I prefer lurking by nature, I'm aware that these places only grow when there's participation, so this is me joining in.

I have an eclectic range of interests and hobbies, and really need to work on my small talk/casual chatting skills rather than overthinking things. So hi all!

Hi! You sound like me haha
Too guilty of lurking, peppering in thr occasional comment here and there.
Nice to see someone on the same journey as me to try to engage this community better

Community engagement ftw! And yeah, it can be hard to break old habits, but where better to try it than in a new and growing place like this.

Exactly. Fresh slate, might as well go for it haha

PrunesMakeYouPoop,

O hai!
I am a Rexxiter, though I deleted my account back in 2015.

Interested in tech, linux, games, "2010 reddit conversations/threads/interactions (the first reddit worldwide meetup day was an absolute blast)", and I'm glad to be here.

Over the past year, I've been trying to get into overlanding, but it's piecemeal and slow since money is expensive and the weather out here is crap for 2/3 of the year.

bread_with_toast,

good morning, evening or afternoon! i'm bread_with_toast, if you're reading this.... you're reading this! awesome - lemme keep you engaged. anyways, i like your normal-ish hobbies (programming, cad, 3d modelling & printing) and i enjoy making physical products. favourite subject is science (chemistry). your reward for reading this will be some emoticons: :D ;p <:-0

Heyo, Apollo refugee here and totally liking this federated thing so far! It's so far been giving me vibes of the internet of the late 90s/early 2000s. Signed up on both here and Mastodon, and recommended a few other communities I followed on Reddit to consider joining up on the Fediverse.

Professionally, I'm an IT guy and been leaning into becoming a Salesforce dev since I'm genuinely interested in working with the product - thankfully I've been able to so far Google my way through and up to Flows, but now I gotta actually start getting some certs! Personally, I'm just a chill dude looking for fun convos to have with people online - always felt like I socialized better online than in-person, so excited to try this out! :)

Hello everyone, I'm ultrabluewolf. I'm disappointed to see where reddit is heading as it was my favorite social media platform, but I'm also not surprised. I've always been more of a a lurker on reddit and other places, but I like the community here, so I'd like to try participating more. I'm a dev who's also an artist. I'd probably mostly post about art related content. But, in addition to that I love tech and I'm a huge fan of games, animation, comics, storytelling, etc.

delta,

Hi, I'm Delta, a reddit refugee searching for alternatives. First post here, just to test the waters. I enjoy things like gardening, board games, and have interests in keeping things frugal and zero waste. Happy to meet everyone here!

Hey all, I'm Rob. Reddit refugee, former digg refugee. I tend bar and and I'm the ostensible union steward for our shift.

AtomCreatorMusician,

Hi, I'm a 39-year-old woman from Australia. I was pretty unimpressed by how Reddit handled the response to their API changes, so I'm checking this place out. Another big factor in coming over here was learning about how the API changes would impact accessibility. As someone who works in inclusive education research, accessibility is something that's important to me.

My lifelong passion is music. My main instrument is the clarinet, and I compose. I play the clarinet and the piano every day. My other hobbies include fibre arts, especially knitting, but I can crochet a little and sew badly; art, particularly coloured pencil drawing, and I got a drawing tablet early this year which I've been loving; number and word puzzles; video games sometimes; and keeping fit, which currently consists of strength workouts, swimming, walking, cycling, and sometimes running and rollerblading.

I'm autistic. I don't feel particularly negative or positive about it, it's just a thing that is. It comes with upsides and downsides just like any other neurology.

I live with my fiancé, who works as an Ubereats driver and is a hobby gardener, video gamer, tabletop gamer, all round big nerd, and The Best, My Favourite.

I'm a pretty quiet person but I'm going to make an effort to interact here to help get the community going.

Howdy howdy, happy to be here! Looking forward to getting to know everybody :) Quick question, anyone know how to subscribe to communities (magazines?) on mobile?

Hiya everyone! I'm Smiley, lovely to meet you all. ♪(´▽`)

I'm trying to be less of a lurker and start posting - will mostly be my art, photography, crochet and cat pics.
Hoping more cat communities pop up cause I love cats, I have 5 of the hairy buggers!

treyd,

Hi all, I'm Trey, he/him. I started using reddit in 2013, very very sad to see the direction and want to help work on alternatives. I'm interested in, among other things, Linux dev, Rust, cryptography, Minecraft, Counter-Strike, heterodox economics, history, and snowboarding. I've been on the Fediverse for ~4 years now, and started my own Mastodon instance at alpines.club, and really optimistic about the space.

I think there's a lot of unseen potential due to how motivated some of the moderators and client developers are, so I collected my thoughts into a longer form article that I would love to have some feedback on: https://tr3y.io/articles/tech/reddit.html (Should I post as a separate thread?)

Hi I'm Nobu. RIF refugee, new to here and its twitter aspects. Not sure how active I plan to be since I should be learning not to fiend social media so much after reddit, but news and community would still be nice to have. Maybe I'll lurk less this time.

I've got wide but shallow interests in games, music, manga, history, sci-fi - hoping to dive deeper into something if I ever learn to live past my decision paralysis. Anyway nice to meet you all.

    Hi everyone!

    (they/them)

My interests are (pretty much the usual for here): art, gaming, design, linux, music, movies, space, tech, nature, science, etc.

Been interested in the fediverse for a while, but finally made the jump as part of The Rexxit. I really think open source and decentralization are how we take back the internet (and tech in general) from those who control it.

I never really posted much on reddit, but here I'd like to try and participate more and maybe make some friends on here. (although realistically I probably won't because of anxiety, ha)

anyway this is getting too long, probably pretty obvious I have adhd at this point from all the parentheses

welcome! i’m trying to be less of a lurker here than i was on reddit. i feel like this is a great place to feel like i’m part of a community, and not just absorbing content.

yeah, I feel the same way. reddit has kinda evolved into just a faceless content feed, and I'm done with that.

    nightshademary,

same - this is one of very few comments i’ve ever actually posted. i used to be so active on forums etc. think the vastness of reddit made it feel pointless and i just became a total lurker. kind of into the idea of actually feeling like myself on the internet again!

Hi all! I go by Ralts or Jay. Excited to be here as yet another Reddfugee, and I hope a return to decentralized communication like this will be the trend in the coming years.

Interests-wise, I'm an amateur programmer and CS undergrad with a particular interest in systems and graphics programming, amateur Rocket League player (hardstuck D3-C1, iykyk), and enjoyer of half-finishing creative projects for the games I drift between playing semi-regularly.

I'm not typically one to open up or put myself out there over the internet or otherwise, but everyone over here just seems so chill and welcoming so fuggit. Here's to new beginnings.
