@feld If users on Nostr change their username, Mastodon will treat them as a brand new account with no followers, and people will have to reestablish following relationships with them.
I remember the past issue and downtime they had at flipboard by editing an username. Every user had same inbox. Should be fixed now. But, since then, they can't manage username modification and other software silently acknowledge that.
I can't find the blog post about theirs bug hunting, in a few words, I can remember they had to contact Hard core Mastodontz to figure out it. Happened in the early days.
@alex@feld I did attempt changing the username before on pleroma, and it seemed to be respected on mastodon, as long as AP ID/inbox/outbox stayed the same (which it doesn't without additional patches, I used nginx rewrite rule to patch that up). Post counter was broken but all the posts appeared in the same profile.
